So, here I am looking for a new pipe and I get bored. Hey, everyone talks about getting their birth year pipe and me getting married here soon enough. That would be the perfect thing to hint at for someone to get me, yes? At least that's what I was thinking myself and here I go searching and come across a 1989 Dunhill Cumberland Diplomat. Now being new to the whole pipe hobby can anyone tell me more about this pipe? Is it actually from the time its said to be? If so, I wouldn't mind adding this thing to my collection.

Ebag, never heard of this birth year pipe... oh no, noooooooooo... thanks a lot, NOW I want one myself. I blame you ebag, this is all your fault. I'm going to send you the bill. :nana:
I don't know a lot about different pipes, so can't really tell you if that year Dunhill was worth it, or even if it's actually from that year. I suggest you see if they had hallmarks for that year, and see if you can see if the pipe has them.

When I magnify the image the suffix number definetly looks like 29 to me. Using this link, dating a Dunhill, it would truly be a 1989 pipe. I would get the seller to verify the suffix if it were me.

I am not a Dunhill expert, but I think if you were to snag it for $200, you can't really go wrong. I would be more confident if I could see a clear pic of the bowl's interior. Still, he's listed as a top seller and offers a return policy.
Can always request a better photo too.
Even if you were to pay $250 - I still think it's a fair price if you can afford it. Doesn't mean you won't find it cheaper some day, but if you want a birth year pipe, you can't always be too choosy.

Hey, I like the way drwatson thinks! My dad's only Dunhill just happened to be my birth year pipe.

The pipe in question looks legit to me, but as others have said, the photos aren't real clear, and condition is hard to tell. The date code after "MADE IN ENGLAND" should be an underlined 29 for 1989.

I bought my first Dunhill from the same seller a couple of weeks ago. The pipe I received was in better condition that I hoped for and was shipped quickly and was well packaged.
Coincidently, it was a 1989 Chestnut Bent Pot.
I don't know if he's buying them and refurbishing them or if they are out of his collection or what... Mine seemed like it was barely smoked at all.
