In the sticks in Mississippi
Here's a pipe my wife bought that we call the mystery pipe. (well, my wife calls it her witches pipe, and who am I to argue?) She has smoked it a number of times, but due to the deep narrow bowl, it's a little difficult to use. We have no idea who made it, and hope someone will have some ideas. The pipe has had a silver band added to the shank which covers part of the name. I can see the letters "DUL", and under that "Qu". On the other side, I can see the parts of the words that would say "Made in England". I recently saw a Dunhill pipe on ebay that looks like the identical pattern, with the exception of the stem. The Dunhill has a saddle bit, whereas our pipe has a plain bit with more curve, and is a little longer. Don't know if it's the original stem, or not. Could have been replaced if damaged which led to the silver band on the shank. I've been told that Dunhill never made seconds, but the pattern looks the same to me. Anyone familiar with this shape?
