So after a wait of 2 weeks i finally got to go up to Dublin.

I went to find Petersons to buy my first pipe and found the shop on Grafton St. Its a lovely little shop, not very big but the walls are lined with glass pipe cases and other smoking items and the odd hip flask or two!

I bought myself a standard System 303 which i think is a beautiful pipe, along with a tin of Sunset Breeze.

Unfortunately i havnt got a chance to smoke it properly due to sickness and i dont want to spoil my first experience!

Will keep you all posted :)

Good idea to wait. Being sick can really mess up your tasting. Hope you feel better soon. Good luck on the pipe.

Good job, hope you had a good time. A Pete 303 is a good addition to any pipe collection. Enjoy it in good health.

My girlfriend went to Ireland this summer and even went into a pipe shop in Dublin. Alas, she did not buy me a pipe though :(. Enjoy your pipe and happy puffing! I am truly envious!

40 years later, I'm still enjoying my first pipe, a Spanish no-name bought when I was a student in Mallorca. That 303 you picked up in Dublin will carry with it a lifetime of happy memories. Congratulations on a fine start to the coming collection.

Sorry guys my camera isnt functional at the moment so i couldnt get any pics of the shop!! But i had my first bowl this evening :) I tried the Sunset Breeze and really enjoyed it, I do however need to ask for a few tips to refine my technique.

I only packed about half a bowl to start teh break in process but it kept going out on me even tho i thought i packed it a little too lightly. The tobacco is pretty dry i opened it the first day so let some of the moisture out as it was a small bit damp.

So basically i couldnt keep the pipe lit unless i was constantly puffing!! Should practice sort this out or am i doing something wrong? Copmments appreciated.

As a newer pipe smoker myself. it took me a couple weeks to get it down. I didn't have a very good pipe and my tobacco was to moist. But even so it takes a bit to get the feel for packing it right and puffing and lighting without killing your mouth and tongue..I had crazy tongue bite and even my gums hurt..my choice in blends was not the smartest. But I was not going to give up and now all is well...not to say you will get crazy tongue bite. That was just me. but I do recommend getting Biotene mouthwash..that really helps with any sensitive moments you may have. Just trying to say hang in there. the first week as with anything new takes some getting used to..enjoy and have fun.

Cheers for the input guys, just thought I'd give you a quick update! I decided to dry out my tobacco a bit, and tried it today with it being a bit drier. I only less than half a bowl ( baby steps lol ) and to my surprise i smoked it right down to the bottom without a single re-light. Granted it wasnt a long smoke, only about 15 mins but i didnt expect much more from the amount i packed. my plans are to start building up the amount i pack and il keep you guys posted! :D
