Today after having a nice smoke with my Mr. Brog I let her cool down and started to clean her. I removed the Stem from the Shank (I do this once a week) cleaned it, and when I wanted to put it back in the Shank. The Tenon broke off.

I did it after my pipe cooled completely, without using force, and it just broke off. I only had it for about six weeks and I liked it better than my Gasparini.

So I ordered a new stem from eBay and have to wait for it to arrive.

Was it just a bad luck or something I should do different?

Man that sucks, has the pipe ever been dropped? I am new to pipe smoking myself so unfortunately can not offer any other help. Just looks like a possible drop resulting in a fracture. I'm not saying it was as you said you didn't use force so please don't mistake my comments.

Thats a shame, sorry to hear that. Don't think it was anything you did, could of been a defect in the stem from before buying it. Like Toby said it could of been dropped, an unseen defect, or just some bad luck. If the other stem you order doesn't fit as well you could always get a bit of delrin rod and drill out the stem and refit it. if the tenon is big enough you could drill out both sides and mate them back together. Good luck papajoe.

You might contact Mr. Brog and see what they have to say. I haven't dealt with them, but they have a reputation for good customer service. They're a forum sponsor, there's a link on the left side of the page.

The exact same thing happened to my Brog! I emailed their customer service to see what size would fit my pipe and haven't had a response. After seeing some reviews I think that this is the only real defect that their pipes have.

An experienced pipe repair person could insert a Delrin tenon in that stem for very little money. Even with a replacement stem you may want consider having it repaired just in case.

It might be that this particular material needs to cool overnight. Sometimes stone cold to the touch isn't

completely cold. I think with less expensive pipes, problems with materials are more frequent. That's why

you pay for higher level pipes. If this had been a Castello or Ser Jacopo, it would be shocking. Or it could just

be a manufacture flaw in that particular tenon, a fine crack that came from the factory. You'll be back in business

soon, and I doubt it will happen again.
