Hello everyone,
I mentioned the other day that I am a newbie smoker, but I have been collecting some pipes for several years. There are a couple of pipes I smoked a couple of times, but basically I never smoked the others. I have smoked many things in my day, but I really didn’t know how to get going with pipe smoking. I’ve have always found pipe smoking fascinating ever since I was in college and my philosophy professors would sit outside between classes and smoke their pipe and just ponder. And of course, my favorite philosopher who I studied is Bertrand Russell, a prolific pipe smoker into his 90’s (he died at age 97). I bought the same blend that he used to smoke, "a quarter-pound tin each week of Fribourg and Treyer's Golden Mixture.” Anyway, I have decided to start enjoying the hobby in earnest.
This place is a great resource and I have learned a lot from looking at the forums. I have only purchased briar pipes. I have six pipes now. I purchased three from local tobacco shops (a Savinelli, a Moonshine and a Castello). I also bought three pipes online (a Nording, a Castello and a cheaper French estate pipe). I basically purchased pipes that I thought looked cool without knowing much more. Some of the pipes need a little cleaning because they have sat for awhile.
This is the Savinelli I bought new (smoked a couple of times):
This is a Castello I purchased locally about a year ago. It is used, but was cleaned up by the store prior to sale. I have not smoked it yet:
This is the Moonshine brand pipe I bought locally. It is new and apparently made in Tennessee. Never smoked. It has a great feel in my hand:
This is the Nording. I bought this one online a while back. It is new and never smoked. I need to clean the stem because it is now oxidized, so I’ve learned. I just think it looks cool:
This is my tiny Castello. I bought it online used, but it looked new when I received it. I like the fact that I can hold in my mouth easily without using my hands. My favorite pipe at the moment:
Lastly, this is the French estate pipe I bought online. It was cheap. i’m not really sure why I bought it. lol.
