Happy Hump Day ladies and gentlemen. My 3 newest pipe additions, a Jake Hackert billiard, an Anan Pipes volcano and a few updated pics of the Arley Curtz rusticated billiard i posted a thread on previously. They all smoke great, especially the Hackert, which i love the shape of as it is a separation from his famed and often shaped pokers. It is still a hefty piece of briar but remains lightweight and truly a wonderful pipe...I will be looking for more Hackert's in the future, that is for sure. The Curtz smokes great and has a rather large bowl, both in diameter and in depth. I contacted Arley about the shank extension and he emailed me back that it was Tulipwood, in case anyone was still wondering from the other thread. The Anan pipe is a beautiful piece of briar at a bargain of a price. The birdseye on the bottom is stunning and the flame/straight grain around the sides of the pipe is nice as well. There are some natural flaws that the carver left untouched in the pipe, but i actually like them and think they add character to the pipe. It contains Masur Birch and Malasian Ebony inserts, which help to bring the pipe together and accentuate the overall aesthetically pleasing look of the briar. The pipe smokes fine, but there is a noticeable gap between the Ebonite stem and the Masur Birch insert portion of the shank where they meet. The stem definitely could have been carved better so that they met flush with no gap. It wasn't a deal breaker for me though, especially for what i paid for the pipe and i decided to just live with it. Overall, 3 great new additions to my stable.
