A Peterson Dublin Republic-Era Sterling Spigot. I paid top dollar for this ($112USD and don't regret it). Came to me in excellent shape, unstained and smokes as well as anything I own. Weighs 1.7 oz.
I still am unsure of the year. It has the old style "P" on the briar, but I am wondering if it's a commemorative, limited edition pipe. Seems so based on this link: http://www.pipephil.eu/logos/en/logo-peterson-ser.html
Either way, I have to say I am thrilled with this purchase.

That is a really nice Peterson with a lot of history.
There is a wealth of knowledge on Peterson Pipe history on the web.
I like this site:

Thanks a lot guys - really appreciate the kind words!
And thank you zekest for the link. I did check it out. Still unsure, but I am thinking it falls under the commemorative line of pipes:
Later in the 1970s, Peterson began production of "commemorative" pipes, often referred to as "replica" or "retro" pipes and these will also have the old style lettering but according to the pipes that we own and have seen, most of these will have a small difference in the original forked tail "P".

Congrats on a nice Pete! I've yet to own a spigot. You can date it by the silver hallmarks. "Republic" era spans from 1949 to 1999 or so, AFAIK whe Ireland formally joined the Eurozone and adopted the Euro they quit stamping them "made in the Republic of Ireland".

The forked P is just a forked P. I think they did use it in the 70s to commemorate something, but then my 2 year old Belgique has a forked P

Ah, I didn't know that!
You can date it by the silver hallmarks.
Thanks - RC, unfortunately I need a magnifying glass to see them and don't have one handy.

six, take a q-tip and a bit of bleach and very carefully rub over the hallmark area ( without making a mess and dripping it everywhere else, of course ), wait a few minutes and it will oxidize the silver. Take a high res Macro or Super Macro shot of the area and enlarge. Works wonders!
