Just bought a Bay Denmark I posted, I received last week, opened today, and I wasn’t expecting also my Pete today, when it rains it pours, oh I feel like a kid in a candy store. LOL ? ? ?

The SPC Newsletter that came last week, showing the new Newgrange Spigots that came in stock, when I saw the three in black, pictured here on the right, I was like wooo nice must buy one. LOL ?

At first I thought I liked what appeared as reddish colored stems and top of the bowls, but when I looked at them on the site, they looked more brown, or darker looking red. So I surfed the web looking every where for this red look but found none. Then I thought, nah, these look to much like Christmas pipes, and the one I purchased I actually liked better.

I purchased the Newgrange Spigot 124 Fishtail, and the first thing that really caught my eye was the blast finish, that this looked like something Eltang made, and I was blown away to see a Peterson look like this, and even more amazed that it wasn’t sold immediately and still available, you know how these PAD junkies can be! LOL rotf

I really truly can’t believe I was lucky to get this one, I’ve never seen this type of deep craggy blast before on a Peterson.

Pipe Specs:

  • Length: 4.52 in. | 114.81 mm
  • Weight: 1.00 oz. | 28.35 g
  • Bowl Height: 1.89 in. | 48.01 mm
  • Chamber Depth: 1.63 in. | 41.40 mm
  • Chamber Diameter: 0.75 in. | 19.05 mm
  • Outside Diameter: 1.13 in. | 28.70 mm
  • Stem Material: Acrylic
  • Filter: None
  • Shape: Bent Dublin
  • Finish: Rusticated

The one thing that struck me as odd, is that Peterson gives you a nice green colored suede pouch, and I do mean real suede. I guess the cows are cheaper in Ireland, instead of making a decent chamber coating, the pipe still has that plastic looking like coating. LOL ? Moo ? ?

This month last year I contacted Peterson, and made a post here, they said;

The coating is a wax mixture of gum arabic, charcoal and water.

So I’m assuming the ingredients are still the same., it looks fine, and because the blast finish is so amazing I’m not going to worry about it!

Oh and Mr Peterson @bullet08 I was thinking about you the whole time, so I hope this one makes your proud.

I’ve always enjoyed your pictures, they all look so amazing! So this one is for you, and to your health, and of course all the other Peterson lovers! I’ve always had admiration for Peterson, like every pipe smoker should at least own one.

Depending on the lighting, the hue of the stem varies, from a brown/orange/red color. It also looks like Cumberland, the look is really nice with all the streaks running through it.

Other than that weird looking button, that's fantastic! (I'm a P-lip guy...)
Peterson has really stepped up their game. I'm a fan of bowl coatings in general, but the new Peterson coating is as neutral as I've ever experienced and helped break in the pipe in short order.
And, those suede socks are pretty neat, but a tad bulky in a pipe bag with other pipes/bags.

I wonder if the pipe is longer than th 4.52 indicated in the desription. I ony ask this as i bought a flame grain spigot which had a similar description but which turned out to be closer to 6 inches long. Nice pipe and i kept it but i prefer shorter pipes. The pipe you purchased is very nice indeed, good blast, great silver and a bit of Danish influence.

If you are referring to the two stem pictures I took, they’re not very clear, I only took those to show the colors. If you look at the SPC pics, it’s what I’d call a small elegant lip.

The suede bag is very soft and pliable, this one isn’t bulky, but just a nice thickness to protect the pipe. Here I’m barely pinching it together, you can really squish it smaller.

The pipe is 28 grams, I found it easy to clench with the small lip.

Looking down on the stem, it has a slight concave shape. Here’s a pic showing that.

And some views of this lip to show it’s small.

I didn’t pay attention to that length mentioned from SPC, that does seem small, here I put a tape next to it, taking into consideration where the top of the bowl is canted forward.

Hmm

Gorgeous!! I love the size... It reminds me of an super fancy Tom Eltang Arne Jacobsen. I hope it smokes as good as it looks!

No kidding, doesn’t it, I swear I felt like I wasn’t making this up in my head, that this looked like it was made by Tom.

It also has a similar look to some of the older Rubio pipes, when he started doing this scaled look, look at these pics of the somewhat older scale looks Rubio first did.

Has anyone ever seen Peterson doing blasts like this before?

I suck at measuring, did I lay the tape right, if so, what is the one big mark before 6 inches represents for the size as 5?
