Well, last May I moved from UT to NC and transferred with the company I was working for in Utah. Been a great place to live and work so far. North Carolina is absolutely beautiful in its own way. Which is different than Utah. Here the trees are GREEN! Everything is green and there is water everywhere. I live 5 minutes from Lake Hickory. Wife loves it here the kids are growing to love it, all is going well.
Then, last Wednesday, we go in for our typical Wednesday morning meeting and there are two other people there. One is the district manager which usually shows up once every couple months for the meetings so no surprise there. Other one we have never seen before. Introduces himself as Mr. X from human resources at the corporate office. Uh oh who hit on a customer. lol. We all introduce ourselves to him and give him a quick idea of who we are and where we are from and then wait to see what is going on.
He goes on to say that due to the current state of economics in our region of North Carolina, as well as a few other areas come to find out, our depot is being closed. Effective the 21st of January. And, we can not tell anyone outside of our immediate family here in NC about any of it. No mention to any customers until they receive their letters from home office. Thankfully I had a 4 day weekend for a couple Dr. appointments.
Monday morning we go out and have to tell out customers the usual see you next trip like nothing is wrong. When they get their letters on Tuesday, my phone has not stopped ringing. "Is it true you aren't coming back?" "Why didn't you tell me when you were here Monday?" My cell phone has stayed on the charger continuously since Tuesday.
So, after a few phone calls back to my old boss with the same company, we are going to be headed back across the country to Utah. For the most part, this little adventure has been real fun and educational. There have been a few things I wish I had never done while here, but hindsight is 20/20. Nothing work related or forum related. I have lost a couple friends in the move but gained a lot more.
Staying until the middle of February and then heading home.
