So this last Sunday my grandpa gave me his dr grabow pipe and I was so happy about it! It has "duke" engraved and is a bent pipe. It is a lot smaller than my two other pipes which perfectly fills my need for a smaller bowl shorter smoke. It also has the blue spade on it which from what I read denotes a filter pipe. I know it's a cheaper brand but obviously it now has huge sentimental value. Any have experience with this particular DG model? I'm a newcomer to the hobby but I must say it smokes really well and is a fine looking pipe. I know there's a ton of info to read on the DG duke pipes but I'd like to hear what you all have to say about this model. I've smoked two bowls of 1Q and one of sutliff vanilla custard and all times it smoked great! Would love to hear your opinions!

What a great legacy pipe. Take good care of that briar and enjoy it. I was thrilled when my sister dug out of the kitchen cabinet at our home place a circular pipe rack that originally belonged to my paternal grandfather and was inherited by my dad. My sister packaged it carefully and sent it to me, and I use it, along with three other racks. These things are priceless. Your grandfather's Dr. Grabow is about right for a pocket pipe, but I'd get a cob or another Grabow for this purpose. You want to take care of this one.

I never got to meet either of my Grandfathers and honestly don't know that they smoked or not but for you to recieve such a gift is truly special. Heirlooms that mean the most cost the least and yet still function and offer that connection to family blood. Smoke it in good health.

I like the Grabows. Only have one, but will add a couple more. How great is that to get a pipe directly from your grandfather. A treasure for sure.

I'm feeling a bit sad that I didn't get one of my grandfather's pipes. That would be a lovely connection. Drawing air through the same pipe that your GrandDad smoked. You couldn't really get a more intimate keepsake.

I'm sure you will only treasure it more each year. I have one of my Grandfathers Garybows that I found in his workshop when we cleaned out his house. I feel a special connection to him when I pull it out of the rack and partake in a bowl.

I'm looking forward to seeing a picture of it as well. I've got several of my grandfather's pipes from the 1960s so I know how you feel. The Duke is a little small for my everyday use. My Silver Duke is a favorite.

@guitrsnglocks - Congrats on receiving a Dr Grabow from your grandfather. I'm sure you'll appreciate that pipe more and more over the years.
I found one of my grandfather's old Dr Grabows a few months back while digging around in my mothers basement:

It's one of my most treasured pipes and after cleaning out 35 years of dust it is actually a very good smoker!

Welcome to the forum. Having your grandfathers pipe is indeed a treasure. I have a wide variety of pipe brands, but my Dr Grabows are some of my most used pipes. They consistently deliver a great smoke. Congrats and let's see some pictures of it. :puffy:

Thanks all it truly is a treasure. He stopped smoking but still has all his pipes and racks and is thrilled I took up the hobby. The only access I have to this forum is through my iPhone. Can I post pics this way?
