So I just mixed up two batches of tobacco. I have been wanting to experiment with topping some cavendish. I went to my local B&M and bought a bulk bag of a light cavendish. I split the 12 ounce bag into two parts. For the first batch I mixed Dark Rum, Pure Chocolate extract, and Molasses. For the Second I mixed Dark Rum and Pure Maple Syrup. This is an experiment as there are not a lot of tobacco recipes floating around out there, so I mixed quantities that looked good to me, and boy does it smell good, and taste good too for that matter, so we will see how it smokes in a month or so. I will do some more applications each week if I think it needs it. Here is a pic of the finished product in process.

Very good work. Will you explain how did you do the topping? I want to add a flavour to a jar of my tobacco (lost falvour in an accident) but don't know how to do. I think your experiment may help.

Well I spread tin foil on a cookie sheet and spread the tobacco out. Then I mixed up my solution. 4 parts rum, 1 part maple for example. Then I put it in a clean spray bottle. I sprayed evenly over the tobacco and then mixed, spray and mix, spray and mix till it looked evenly coated. I put it in a glass jar that seals well and will let it cure for a month before smoking. I may do the spread and spray again if I think it needs it. Tokerpipes also makes his own and he gave me some tips. Remember to only use edible ingredients.

Thanks for your experience and advice. I am going to give a try today, I'll use mix of vanilla and coconut which I think will give a great taste and flavour.

Mr. Mike
I will use vanilla and coconut concentrated syrup (sold in bottles and used to make flavoured hot drinks like cappuccino) and dilute it with distilled water then spray it. I will use tibacco that was sinking in water (do you remember that thread?) which is dry enough. My opinion is to let your tobacco to dry a little but not crispy then spray it.

Everything I tried months ago, was to me a grim failure. I started with some commercial blends and added (individually or together) black cav, dark rum, vanilla extract. Liquids were applied sparingly with an atomizer. After weeks of jar time, was additional drying time. An analogy would be uncooked soup. All ingredients individually good, but together not palatable.
I'm game for a second try if a recipe here appears promising.

Here is the secret to adding toppings to bacci- DRY TIME- as you add moisture to any bacci you will have to let it dry...the more sugar you add the thicker the casing so the more time to dry. you can speed up the process with heat e.g. oven, hair dryer, etc.
Honey Bourbon Black & Gold-my blend took 4 weeks of air drying due to the real honey I used. The casing is still heavy but its a slow smoking tobacco once you add casing to it. One bowl will last me about 1 hr- 1hr 45 min depending on how tight its been packed.

As far as ingredients, I'm using Dark Rum bought at the liquor store. I am using real molasses and real 100% pure maple syrup, bought at the grocery store. As far as extracts such as chocolate or a nut extract or oil, I am trying to not use anything artificial. I don't want to use imitation almond extract for example as that is just chemicals that taste like almonds and no almond itself. So I am using the real thing. We have a huge farmers market here in Atlanta where I can get a lot of those kinds of things. Vanilla is another example, if I use vanilla in the future I will use real vanilla extract rather than imitation. Also since I used Rum and Molasses, though the molasses is thick the rum thinned it out and allowed me to spray it.

Thanks for your advice and experience, what is your advice for vanilla and coconut? I actually dont use liquor for religious reasons so diluting vanilla syrup by distilled water will be good?
