jason, nice pipe. Take it slow and easy. Sip don't puff. Savenellis are some of my favorites.

jason, just to walk you through the pipe filter drill, you can smoke your Savenelli with the balsa insert (some call this a filter), or without, or if you like no filter but slightly more restricted draw, a no-filter adaptor. These usually come with the pipe, or you can order them easily. This is personal preference. Also note, some Sav pipe series do not use filters; offhand, the Hercules (large pipes) and Oscar Lucite come to mind. Most others offer the options I've mentioned. I'm mentioning this because it is not very well explained for beginners; the information is out there, but not concise. Other pipes have other filters, like 9 mm (common in European marketed pipes), rock maple inserts in Brigham, and Dr. Grabow and Medico filters; Dr. Grabow often accept the Sav no-filter adaptors. Try the various filtered and non-filtered modes and see which suits you.
You might also like to shop Rossi brand pipes, which are made by Sav but are lower priced, using many of the same shapes, like the 404 zulu, etc. Likewise, some of these come using filters and others not.

Hi Mso489, thank you for the help! I see the filter I received is a wooden triangle, will I be able to use normal circular filters or can I only use these? What is this other filter you are talking about that I can order? Thank you!

Far nicer than my first pipe. Very nice. May it serve you well in the years to come.

I bought that same Savinelli less than a year ago. Although I had many other pipes, it quickly became my favorite, so of course I got another just like it. Then I soon had two more different Savinelli's! I have other pipes that I enjoy, but I seem to reach for these the most often. I use the balsa filters when smoking aromatics, leave them out when smoking flakes. BTW, I cut the filters in half, each half is good for about three smokes, especially if you dry them out by pinching then in a kleenex after use.

Nice! A Sav would be my next pipe ideally, and am partial to the bents myself. Probably would also get filters for them, but that's a personal preference
