I own a meager collection of hand selected, (by me) baskets. The baskets are beautiful Burled affairs from a long time Tobacconist who occasionally removes them from a long wall of his old glass cases on his whim. Gorgeous many, and some are actually faded on one side from years of sunlight while the original finish remains on the side encased.

I measured the bowl height, depth, diameter and overall length of one such “favorite” and placed those dimensions into TobaccoPipes.com web filter and did the unthinkable.

I ordered the modest Peterson Aran 06 unbanded billiard, pictured below, which suits my taste in pipes.

I’m excited for its timely arrival and first smoke.

PAD shouldn’t afflict me. I’m rather utilitarian with Pipes.

My Simple Pipe criteria. Non Filtered Straight Billiards with a Stems only long enough so I can pass a pipe cleaner easily into the bowl while smoking.

As far as the new pipe’s chosen bowl dimensions, I’m accustomed to loading my “no name basket” by feel.

Am I in for a noticeable smoking experience from the Peterson?

My personal feeling is that it can’t be a better smokin Pipe than my favorite basket!

I’ll post a pic of that as well.

yeah I was like that until I got my first pipe that wasn't a gift or basket pipe and now I've got like ten pipes or something. PAD may still get you.

Nice simplicity on that handsome pipe, and interesting grain. One of my basket pipes turned out to be a Savinelli unfinished 404 yacht, before I knew much about Sav's. I was pleased that I'd plucked that out of the other pipes. Now it is a golden walnut color with quite a deep "finish," and about forty years old.

Looking forward to it, and my mistake! I thought the pipe in your hand above was the other side of the Pete whose photo you shared.
