I got this Falcon (+ an extra bowl):

As you can see the bowl has black paint and an unfinished top. This started to bother me so I removed the paint, sanded it and restained. I found a nice surprise underneath - a really nice grain pattern!

I wonder what went through the persons mind who applied the black stain (or are they 100% factory made?).
When it comes to smoking a Falcon pipe I take back everything bad I've said about them. They smoke wonderfully! It is turning into one of my favorite pipes. I will most certainly be getting more bowls for it.

Falcon Pipes have been a good seller ever since they were first made, probably more Falcons about in the world than any other single make, Falcons have been copied time and time again, Falcon had it's own sub brand, Alco, get it, loose the F and N, Falcon was a USA invention, and Falcons are great smokers. :puffy:

Some of the Falcons had factory colored bowls. I have a both blue and an orange Falcon. There is an Ebay seller that states her grandfather was the US Falcon guy, she lists some awesome NOS pipes.

I was really happy to find that grain pattern, it looks 100 times better now.

The Viking looks like the Falcon. The one I picked up smokes cool and open draw. I need more bowls. It is too bad that the Falcon uses a different thread. It appears that there are not many Falcons on this side of the pond.

I used to have a Falcon (until some one picked it up from the table I had left it on in a pub!!!) and always liked it and the idea of interchangeable bowls. Is that the "Pipe of the Year" design? I like the black central stem.

It is the "Pipe of the Year" with a black middle stem. I think I'll order some more bowls for it eventually - they aren't that expensive.

I have one. Far better than a Doc G Viking, but I can't get past all that shiny metal. Just ain't my style.

My wife took some better pictures of the re-stained Falcon:

A huge difference when using an actual camera and not a cellphone camera.

Thats a pretty neat looking pipe. I am not a huge fan of the metal on it but regardless it is pretty sweet!
