My first English tobacco

I decided it was time to try some English blends. I read some reviews and decided on Peter Stokkebye's English Luxury. I liked what I read and the bulk price of $3.99 an oz locally at Cup O Joes fit the bill. I brought along my little MM Pony as a tester and sat with the cigar smokers in the lounge trying it out. I liked it enogh to buy some.
Well here it is sometime later and I love it! Pouch smell reminds me of smoked jerky and BBQ and campfire. Smoking it is easy as it packs nice and stays lit. I like that I don't have to think about it. Smoking is cool and mild to medium. Taste reminds me of being in a smoke house. A combination of meats curing and cedar planks smoking. Very nice. A great morning smoke with coffee.
Would love to hear others opinions. Also, before I buy more, I will try other blends. Any suggestions in my bulk price point?

I have not tried the English Luxury version but I can recommend Balkan Supreme also from Stokkebye and available at an excellent price point. You will find many recommendations for English blends here. You are beginning a grand adventure in latakia. Good luck.

I could write a long list of English blends but the one I always recommend is Squadron Leader, this has many fans on this Forum and one I always fall back on. ::

English are my favorites. I like Penzance, Mississippi Mud Frog Morton On The Bayou, Countryside, and Balkan luxury Blend 957

I am expecting a 2 oz sample of Walnut from 4noggins.com tomorrow (along with some SWRaro, Middleton SB,ChB,PA). From what I read, Walnut is an "Americanized" English. Like many OTCs, thems that like it, love it and thems that dont, dont!

It's hard to beat Peter Stokkebye tobaccos for value. One of my all-time favorite Balkans, PS Balkan Supreme, can be bought for $26.95/lb. at Mars Cigars. They're quite a bit more but you might want to consider a sampler of Boswell Tobacco's English blends. They can be bought by the oz. so you can try a couple of each to see if any of them floats your boat. My personal favorites are Mild English (light English blend), Magnum Blend, and Northwoods (a little fuller blends). C&D has some terrific English blends, too. My favorite is #416 Plantation Evening but they have many other good ones. You might want to try #965 Tuggle Hall, which is a replica of Dunhill's MM965. Russ Ouellette at Pipes and Cigars has some wonderful English blends in his Hearth and Home line, including Sunjammer (another answer to MM965), Distinguished Penguin, Midnight Stroll and, in heavier blends, Ten to Midnight and Larry's Blend. This list ought to be enough to get you started.

What exactly constitutes an English Blend? Aside from being from England. I have a plethora of tobacco's and do not know which ones are English,vaper? etc.etc..

I didn't know Cup-o-Joe's had a lounge? I've been in the store once, but it was summer an a group of guys were smoking outside, so I joined them. I get up there occasionally.

Westminster is a great latakia blend. Also love Squadron Leader, and of course, Penzance. Westminster seems to have real legs, staying quite good from start to finish. I've gone through a tin each of Pipesandcigars Larry's Blend, and Armada, and they are two that I would try again.

Al, it's a walk thru the storage/shipping area on the retail checkout side of the store. Not huge, but a nice getaway. The first Thursday of every month is "pipe night." I haven't been yet, but Sam (store manager) says it's a good time.
I am smokin' the heck out of Walnut by the way! A nice light English, easy smoking, on the mild side. But nice. I like it.

Boswell's Northwoods and Frog Morton are some good beginner English Blends. Also, G.L. Pease Westminster is another good blend that you cannot beat.....
