From what I have gathered, blending is making your own tobacco from scratch and mixing is when you use several blends that you have purchased. Anyways I have mixed (a very small amount) 1/4 of each: Frog Morton, Plum Cake, Squadron Leader, and Christmass Cookie in the hopes of creating the perfect English. Half of me thinks this is going to be really good and the other half is screaming "YOU JUST PUT A GOOD AROMATIC IN WITH GOOD ENGLISH YOU MORON, NOW THEY ARE BOTH RUINED!" So I'll let it maranade for a day or two and give it a try lol, there seems to be enough for 3 medium bowls. The aromatic was mostly to bring down the nicotine content a notch.

If you are a complete idiot, like me, you can spend a bunch of money on single tobaccos and make a blend which combines a Cavendish/Burley blend with Latakia and Perique. It was actually pretty good according to some and like an idiot, I plan to make even more. Although be prepared for Perique lovers to want more Perique until it's 100% Perique and costs like $8 an oz.

Speaking of mixing, I just got through doing just that. I wondered what two of my favorites might taste/burn like together so, I mixed 50/50 some Autumn Evening with Louisiana Red. Voila-instant euphoria. It worked for me.

I've got about a pound and a half of mixed up whatsits. That was the inspiration for Miskatonic. It occurs frequently in my tobacco pouch as well.

I have a tine of Pereson's Holiday Season that I find to be too sweet. I bought a few ounces of latakia to blend with it but have not had the courage to do it yet. I'll get to it since I don't care if I ruin it but I'll take baby steps with the lat just to see where it leads. You never know what you'll wind up with when you practice pipe tobacco alchemy.

If Christmas Cookie is burley based (like most aromatics), it probably has higher nicotine content than any of the latakia blends.

Absolutely. Lat blends tend not to be as high in nicotine.

All the Boswells aromatics are low in nicotine :P I have trouble smoking blends stronger than low. I can almost smoke a whole bowel of medium strength. All the lat blends are medium or medium + strength.

Eric,
What you are doing is OK! Just take my advice and WRITE IT DOWN. I learned that from Craig Tarler of C&D. You will not remember what you did. Take my word for it... WRITE IT DOWN! That will come in very helpful if/when you stumble on greatness.

I mix a lot. I found a great combo. VBC with MacB Vanilla Cream, about 50/50 and its a very subtle cherry vanilla and its got a nice room note as well.

Well I use a digital scale to weigh it all out in even porportions, I also write down the mixture and the ratios on the ziplock bag I put it into. I would never remember what four tobaccos I used with my collection of like 30 blends.
Don't cringe too much I only ziplock blends I am keeping for the extreme short term :)
