So my wife bought me some cheapie pipes from Ebay but they turned out pretty good imo with a bit of work...the billiard had cobwebs in the bowl. Most of the stem oxidation is gone and they have been through the salt/grain EtOH treatment (the Weber Billiard was a bit nasty) and the Bullcap is a sweet smoke. All they need now is a good polish.
From left to right: Weber Bullcap, Tracy Mincer Freehand, Mountbatten BOWL (apprenticed made Charatan, I think), and a Weber "standing" Billiard. I am not sure what I will smoke in the Mountbatten. First of all, I do not have half an acre of tobacco in my back yard to keep it supplied and second of all, it is huge! Total cost for the pipes my wife bought is less than $38. I do not think any of these are close to being as nice as the pipes that Shaintiques gave me but they will help the rotation.

You got some fine burners there. Enjoy them in rude good health as a friend of mine would say.

They're lovely, Doc.
There was a time, in this country, when Weber made some of the finest machine made pipes in existence. They weren't the prettiest pigs in the pen but they always delivered the goods and were solid, reliable smokers. Your bride did well.
Tracey Mincer was no carver but he was a helluva businessman and I keep a rack queen Doodler to honor his entrepreneurial spirit.
Now, that big bowled bruiser kills. Charatan made or influenced doesn't matter. It's wonderful.

Thanks. The one thing that surprises me is that there is not a fill in the bunch. I sanded the billiard down to remove some char and a dent but the only thing I found was bizarre, unmatched grain from one side to the other. I have grown rather attached to them. As silly as that may sound. I have yet to fire up the Mountbatten. No idea what to stoke it with....

Your huge pipe reminded me of a monster pipe I had once (an Oom Paul). I was with some older men in a pub once and I pulled it out. They looked at it with disbelief and then one drily said, "If it were any bigger you could fit it with gears and ride around in it."

Don't think of them as cheapies and you will be amazed at how they rise in your esteem. For the big pipe, I'd recommend some of PC's Midtown series tub tobaccos. I like Chestnut, the one non-aromatic, but you might like one of the others. Plenty of tobacco, and pretty good too. Not a thing wrong with any of those pipes, and one or two may stubbornly exceed some really expensive pipes in smoking characteristics.

The wax mix I have is not hard enough. I do not have a buffer. I am sending them off to be buffed. But will be looking for a motor to salvage to make my own buffer.

I love ebay for all kinds of cheap stuff.

I am new to smoking so decided to try these 3 very cheap pipes.

I like the tiny bowl size because I don't like to smoke for long.

The aluminum stem/bowl interface leaked but I plugged it with an ash paste.

Not sure what kind of wood it is but I have others so am not too concerned.

I bought this for a friend to try and it burnt through the first time.

We were outside in windy conditions but I will stick to Missouri Meerschaum for cobs.

This pipe can take a 9mm filter.

I don't like the full size bowl but enjoy having a carefree meerschaum.

This pipe I would recommend since meerschaum is so easy to smoke.

Ebay's a good place ta look. You can find the gamut from cheap to way overly expensive.
