Well as I had mentioned in Irish's thread about his dumbo rats... I went ahead and bought my daughter her rat today... The guys at the local pet shop are very cool and will hold it for me until Monday... I truly hope she loves it because I blew my $50 I was saving for some tobacco (this is an extra present that I decided to get her)... but in reality I think this is better spent because the joy I feel I will see on her face on Xmas morning, well no amount of tobacco in the world will even come close to it. :D
Of course the wife is NOT happy AT ALL! LOL I married the only Irish woman thats afraid of mice and rats
So without further ado... here is the newest member of our family.

His name will be up to my daughter... so for now he's nameless.

He's still at the pet store so no one has even seen him... well except me and all of you :P

That's pretty cool and you know your daughter will love that little critter! Have a hard time seeing it worth $50 though, unless that included accessories.

Very cute rat, can't believe some people actually run from these things in terror! You def picked a good one, but $50, I had no idea these things were so expensive!

Nice, I am sure your daughter will be thrilled! For a name, may I suggest Ratso Rizzo?

I hate rodents. It's the only thing that bothers me. Heights, confined spaces, crowds, darkness, none of it bothers me. But for some reason mice and rats terrify me.

Oh heck, for a minute there I thought you were buying her the Charatan Straightgrain! So I'm guessing she hasn't borrowed one of your pipes to experiment with yet, eh?
When she does, gently explain packing, lighting, keeping the pipe clean, and kinds of tobaccos to her. And also how to hide her habit from your wife her mom........

We have one dog (German Shepherd), one cat (save from destruction – not sure what she is), and four rats (one is a dumbo). The entire family loves them. They are cute, smart, and even lovable. Each one will ride on your shoulder like a parrot as if you were a pirate.

He's pretty cute. As far as being scared of rats and mice, have you guys seen the Mythbusters episode where they try to find out if elephants are scared of mice, and found out they really were?

Very cute.

When my wife I were first married we had a big fat hamster named Mookie. Little bugger was a great pet. I understand rats are very smart.

I used to have several pet rats. They only have a life expectancy of about 3 years. We had one named Rosy that was a sweet little critter, and eventually passed from old age. They are also very smart, and have personalities, as far as little critters go. One we had used to tease and play with the cat. I think its a great gift, and make better pets than Gerbils or Hamsters.
