hi all
here is my 1st pipe which given by a friend, never use or own one before, the band is silver, i have checked the hallmarks which gives me 1907, William Henry NEWMAN W.H. NEWMAN LTD - Birmingham.
but what other materials used for the body and the stem? it's light anyway, i think the body was some kind of wood (only 19g plus band), the stem was resin? (only 2-3g with plastic(i think) tenon)
Is this kind of pipe very common? or rare? Worth to keep it not using it? Just curious.
How do I clean the stem before use it? (Soap water etc?)
with thanks.

Looks like a Meerschaum pipe, with an Amber stem.

Just guessing on the stem, because of the way the "chattering" on the stem appears to be chipped rather than just dented.

Hallmarks on the silver band would be there because it is silver.

The other markings will indicate who made the band, when, and where.
Very nice pipe.

:puffy:
PS it looks very clean.

Use no chemicals when cleaning it.

This may help; give it a read, it may help with your understanding of your meerschaum....

Wow. Nice pipe and very nice photographs. A lot of those pics are hard to do. Read the article lawrence posted. It is great. In reality with meerschaum, other then sterilizing the stem and removing any major build-up gently, you are pretty good to go. And it does look pretty clean already so you shouldn't have to do a lot.
