I’m fast approaching one whole year since I stumbled across a few pipe smoking videos, thought they were pretty neat, and mustered up the courage to go to a B&M and buy my first pipe and a couple different pipe tobaccos. I was coming down off of a 15 +/- year cigarette binge, and I didn’t care much for my first blend (Cult Blood Red Moon), but my first pipe, a Peterson System Standard 313, is still a damn fine smoker. I might not have stuck with it if it wasn’t for the fine folks here on this forum.

I had so many questions, many of them unnecessarily complicated, and this was the place I turned to for answers. I just want to give a heartfelt “Thank You” to everyone who has given me advice on pipes, tobacco, accessories, smoking cadence, cellaring, etc. I went from knowing nothing, to still knowing almost nothing! But I now revel in the vast expanse of information that is pipes and pipe tobacco.

I’m humbled to be a member of this fine community, and to learn new information everyday by browsing the forums and picking up bits of wisdom from those who know so much more than I do. I now have over a dozen “nice” pipes (that’s very subjective), countless blends in my rotation, and pounds of fine blends quietly cellaring away for future enjoyment.

So, THANK YOU to all of the members here who have helped me along the way. You guys rock. This is a lifelong passion for me, and I can’t wait to be an old codger someday.

I have to say, the best general advice I’ve gotten has been echoed by most, if not all, the usual suspects on here. It’s always to tune of, “Stop overthinking it, pick up a pipe, pack a bowl, and enjoy it. The rest will sort itself out with time.” I’ve found that to be true 99% of the time. Except with Gawith blends... those I generally have to massively overthink to get a bowl to keep lit ?
