Two museum exhibits, if you happen to be in those areas.
Coming to Quebec: "A time-yellowed, 439-year-old baptismal registry from 16th century France, recently found to contain long-sought clues about the birth and family history of the famed New World explorer Samuel de Champlain, has arrived in Canada to help mark a major milestone in this country’s own birth....
"The registry book will be exhibited alongside the iconic astrolabe and other relics believed to be linked to Champlain — including a small, 400-year-old pipe from Southern Ontario that Pilon said may have been smoked by the French explorer himself during tobacco ceremonies aimed at building good relations with First Nations."
Read all about it here.
Now in New Castle, Delaware: "Learn about the taverns, tiprooms and tippling houses of early New Castle in a new exhibit at the Old Library Museum....
"The exhibit contains an old tavern license, drinking vessels and a replica of a tavern table--complete with oysters, tobacco and pipe, a newspaper, and a deck of cards."
