Just found out about the damage in Louisiana yesterday. Prayers and well wishes to all affected. Hoping our own resident Cajun, Bradley, is well.

Thank you for your concerns, we are approx 20 miles from Gulf and usually we are at the start of the bad weather but with no Tornados just high winds, yesterday we had sustained wind of over 30 mph with gusts of 40. My Daughter who lives in Mandeville, and woks in New Orleans was on pins and needles as her children were in school in Covington and very close to the path one Tornodo took.they locked the students down and made them assemble sitting down in the hall. We don't have underground shelters here so it was the best they could do. Thank you fellows for your concern.

Most of the tornados were north of Lake Pontchartrain between Baton Rouge and Hammond. There were two that touched down in East New Orleans and about 6500 people are without power. A lot of homes were damaged and I think about 12 people were hospitalized but there were no deaths. The government complex at Michoud (where they used to build the booster rockets for NASA) lost a large warehouse.
The worse of the weather was north of Mandeville/Covington and south of Slidell where I live.

The funnel cloud passed over my place yesterday in Mandeville. My friends business lost it big lighted sign in NO east, but he was ok, didn't hit his building. He said they really do sound like freight trains! I am glad no one was hurt.

I guess I won't complain about the snow and freezing rain we received this morning. I'm tired of snow and cold but tornadoes and hurricanes are uncommon here thankfully. We had an ice storm two weeks ago and they just finished restoring power to those affected, not usually that big of a deal but thousands of homes without power in below freezing temperatures changes everything. It is heart warming too see everyone pull together to help those in need.

My oh my ... no major news hit Europe, but my thoughts are with the people, ans especially with the smokers of Louisiana. I know what the weather can do over there ... I was nearby when Katrina hit ...

This seems an unusual time for tornados even in Louisiana. Is that so? We've had some tornado damage in central N.C. over the years. About twenty years ago, one took out a Walmart and a row of apartment homes shaving off the fronts of the apartments. As I recall one infant was a fatality, but considering the amount of property damage, that was amazing. We had one or more twisters touch down about six years ago, all across town, with lots of tree and property damage. I had one touch down on a research campus where I worked, though I'm not sure it was technically tornado strength. The amount of power in those is staggering. Had some funny wind yesterday, but nothing came of it. Seems like we get them in the spring and summer, unless they are oddities.

Glad you and yours are ok, Brad. Hope any other folks on the forum that may live thereabouts are fine too.
