@herb: In fact, Weims this color are referred to as "blues." She's really a charcoal grey, although in the sunlight she looks more medium grey. She's not that very light suede grey many think of for Weims. Folks who show these dogs have a long-running debate about whether the color is acceptable in the "breed standard." I couldn't care less. She is a beauty and VERY well conformed -- except that she seems to have snow shoes for feet. (Man are they huge. Weims have webbed feet, by the way.)
@colcolt: Belive me I know it. One of many changes she's bringing is that my little boy has quickly learned that NOTHING can be on the floor. (I told him it's like Rule 2 of Col. Cooper's four rules: Never allow the floor to contain anything you're not willing to have chewed or swallowed. [Instead of "Never let your muzzle cover anything you're not willing to kill or destroy.])
Moxie has had a swell first 48 hours with us. She's showing some understanding of housebreaking already and we're taking her out often enough that she's getting lots of opportunity to succeed and be praised.
We started right out working on "sit," especially before coming back in the house. Can I say she's a genius and is getting that, too? She loves to run ("when in doubt, tire her out") but finds the leash a little baffling when we've tried that.
Biggest success and surprise so far is crate training. My first time with this method but she is REALLY taking to it in just a couple of days. She'll often head to the crate to rest when she's sleepy. First two nights have been a success as well -- bed at 11 with crate next to us -- up at 3 for a quick trip outside -- then back to bed for another couple of hours or so, until we're up at 5:30 for a good run.
So . . . a long way to go toward having her be the dog we all want her to be. But a great start.
Here's another pic. She looks so sweet and peaceful here, but let me tell you, "Moxie" is exactly the right name for this girl. She's full of mischief.
