Moving On Down To Indiana

On the 30th I make my way down to live with my sister and her 2 boys in Indiana. Her ex is a deadbeat currently in jail for failure to pay child support. He was abusive. She knew I was looking to move from the east coast and talked me into moving in.

She wanted the boys to see what a real man was like. She has a small farm and I'll be just right at home with raising goats since that's what we raised outside of Paris. As long as the goats don't steal my prosthetic I'll be fine.

Luckily I'll have my pipe and some tobacco and my turtle and dog with me to pass the time. Driving a Uhaul down so I'm a bit excited. Never driven something that large before. Look out Americans, a Frenchman will be on the interstate!

Goats are a lot of fun.....usually.
We used to eat our goats, but over the last decade they have become pets. We eat everything else, but the goats are like dogs....big, dumb dogs.

As a former Hoosier, I wish you the best of luck & hope you enjoy your time there. It can be quite charming & peaceful. If you don’t mind my asking, what part of the state are you relocating to? I grew up in southern Indiana, & lived in Indianapolis for a few years as well.

Not to hijack the thread, but I'm in northern Indiana (South Bend, to be precise), and am interested to know if there are local pipe clubs. I've posted in past but no one has seemed to come out of the woodwork with info. Details?

I don’t know about any clubs in Indy or north of there. I’d assume Chicago has a big pipe scene- possibly centered around Iwan Ries.

Yeah, Louisville is a bit of a poke for me. I did go to college about 70mi west of there along I-64, but I'm at quite the opposite end of the state now. There's apparently a club that meets in at a country bar somewhere NE of Indy, but even that is a 2 hour drive from me, which is hard to do on an after-work weeknight.

I do actually follow the IPC on the Facebooks (that's the club that I obviously too-obliquely referenced in my post!). I keep an eye out to see when/if your meetups will be any closer than Gas City (which is a 2-1/4 hour drive), but haven't seen y'all come closer yet, only even farther away to Bargersville.

I do have the September 20 date marked on my calendar and should be there!

I am working on setting up a meetup in Warsaw sometime in the next few weeks with a fella from another forum, so perhaps we can get something going for northern Hoosiers/SW Michiganders.
