Well I've been continually working on the pipes from the mother load I received from my father-in-law. Here we have a Charatan Dublin. I dated it from around 1955 and that makes it the oldest pipe in this lot. Also we have a Dunhill Rhodesian with a fat stem. This pipe was pretty beat and had a lot of nasty cake inside but after a nice reaming some deoxidation and a quick polish It is ready to smoke. I hope to fire both of these up tomorrow.

Here are the links to the other restorations from the Motherload.

Shaintiques you are doing a wonderful job on this huge batch of pipes but since I'm a self confessed spellaholic (there's probably a twelve step program for it) something has been bugging me for while. The word that should be used instead of "load" is lode. Lode refers to primary vein of ore in a mine and the use of the phrase "mother lode" is usually taken to mean the richest one of all, on which grounds your haul qualifies magnificently. Pity me as a spelling nerd/nazi as you will and please accept my apology if I have offended or perhaps misinterpreted an ironic use of the word.

That Charatan is a thing of beauty. I love that shape. I have a becker that looks really similar to that.

As for the Lode vs. Load discussion, I tend to not address comments that have nothing to do with the subject at hand. No one cares either way, well perhaps a few care, but most are so focussed on magnificient pipes to notice. So that being said I'll keep going with my original Motherload.
SSjones: I know this pipe is right in your wheel house for shape. I am also a big fan of the bent rhodesian and was particularly excited when I opened this box to see that shape, more so because of the fat stem which I am very drawn to as well. The pipe is a 1974.
Sam: I dated this pipe using this site. http://pipedia.org/wiki/Dating_of_Charatans. Really the closest I could narrow it down to was 1955-1960. So somwhere in there. I deduced this based on the markings or the lack thereof and the stem logo. Also I have the origina box and sock which help date it to the appropriate era.

I love Charatan and Dunhill pipes, but I find them the hardest to break in of any marques I've ever owned. Once this is done, they are excellent. I only buy these as estate pipes.
This restoration post is outstanding!

Well done. I particularly like the Rhodesian. Thanks for sharing your progress on your pipes, I really enjoy seeing them and am pleased to see these great pipes given a new life.
