I am curious to know how many of you smoke a pipe before/around breakfast. Do you have time to do this before work? What pipes and tobaccos would smoke well? I am thinking to get a really small pipe to smoke before going to work. Would a meer be a good idea for a quick smoke?

I’ve got a tiny little briar, that I bought in Canada, for such occasions.
Personally, I don’t smoke until after work but I have been known to have an early morning bowl on a Sunday, if the mood takes me, and that little pipe is perfect for it.
As it stands, the girlfriend has it, she’s taken a liking to Sunday Fantasy and enjoys the little bowl when the mood takes her fancy.

Every pipe can be good for a quick smoke if you want it to. There are tiny cobs, and briars available for cheap. But meerschaum could be fun too, but I don't see a need for a meer specifically.
Thanks for the reply. I haven't smoked a meer yet, everyone says that they smoke very cool, so it might be easier to smoke without overheating. I am a nervous guy, and pipe smoking for me is a very conscious way of slowing down. But, it would be nice to smoke before work, even when time is limited . So I either smoke a quick cigar, or a small pipe.

Meerschaum smokes similarly to every other type of pipe in my experience.

I've heard that if you smoke after eating a meal would affect your digestive system. Makes your belly bigger. I believe that because my grandpa used to smoke cigarettes right after having a meal. And he has a huge belly!
So, I never smoke right after I finish my meal. I would wait for a couple of hours then smoke.

Saturday morning is my day for an early morning smoke, but it is the opposite of what you're looking for, it is long and thoughtful smoke with tons of coffee.

As far as you Meer question, an advantage for a meer for me is that I don't mind stopping the smoke before it's empty since I don't leave cake in the bowl. With briar I feel like I have to finish it for an even bowl cake. Probably not necessary but it's a mental thing.

I generally smoke a couple of large pipes in the morning if I’m working from home or on the weekend. If I’m going into the office I smoke one pipe in the car during my 45min drive.
I enjoy smoking in the morning with (espresso) more than any other time.
EMP and Presbyterian are my go to morning blends.

@LotusEater I like your tobacco jar; I feel it would go well in my medieval themed home:)
For a quick smoke (not speed smoking competition practice) I would go with a Jamestown or English Civil War clay as they have small bowls.

Thanks @halfdan
I also have the same jar in blue - they are German made Marzi and Remy. They sit together on the same table and Each contain one of my preferred morning blends . All of the rest of my tobacco is stored in canning jars.

It may be a tad Cliché, but the first thing I do when I wake up is load the one cup pour over coffee and begin loading a big bowl of EMP while the coffee is brewing. I leave my teeth out ( dentures) till breakfast which I don’t eat until I’ve been up a couple hours. I go out on the porch and search for birds with my binoculars and puff away. I have 6 pipes 2 for English 2 for Burley and 2 for Virginia which I rotate but EMP gets its own Churchwarden and as it’s only smoked in the morning gets it’s 24 hour rest. The other pipes get smoked all day. If I’m hung over from wine then I wake up with a cob and some 5 brothers and a double ration of coffee having probably smoked NC the night before ( I always smoke NightCap with wine) and just wanting a simple smoke ,complexity be dammed my head hurts and I need some vitamin N, lol…

@LotusEater @halfdan I second that . I want to know about the tobacco jar, and the st dupont lighter. Is it a pipe lighter? I have been looking everywhere for a nice lighter with pipe flame. I have a corona old boy, and they are lovely.

I get up about two hours before work in order to start my day in a leisurely fashion. While making a pour-over coffee, I clean my pipes from the day before and dry tobacco for a morning bowl. The pipe is usually large and the blend is usually a VaPer or straight Virginia. It takes me at least an hour to finish the coffee (I don't mind it room temperature) and smoke the pipe. During that time I do my banking, return emails, and read a couple of papers online. Then I get up, shower, shave and go to work—which I do by FaceTime from my easy chair.

I own 3 Meers. One a cheap CAO. Another is a inexpensive SMS. My last is my post expensive an IMP. In my opinion they all suck as they get hot in comparison to my broken in briar pipes. If you want to waste your time trying to color it like some badge of honor, have at it and have fun. I know a lot of guys who love their meers and how they color. I am also not a fan of their stems. Now take into account I am a picky psycho when it comes to stems. Most people don't have my mental disorder.
