I'm one of these guys that likes to dry the tobacco a bit before smoking. Sometimes I don't judge it just right, and I have some left over after loading the pipe. If there is enough left, I may load another small pipe with the same mixture. If there isn't very much, I may just leave it on the plate and figure it out later.

On Saturday I was smoking multiple bowls of different things, and had crumbs from different blends. I cannot remember if it was just one blend, or a combination of blends; but I loaded a small pipe and forgot about it. I noticed this morning that it had not been smoked so I fired it up. It was so good. Nice and sweet, like a perfect codger type blend.

Only one problem (if you want to call it a problem). I have no idea what I smoked! I know the tobacco I smoked that day, and I know what the top of the loaded bowl looked like, but I haven't a clue as to what it was. Of course, it was so good I want to duplicate the experience, but that seems unlikely. Oh well, I got a great bowl out of it.

Whatever it was had some sweetness and didn't taste exactly like anything I smoked on Saturday, so it was probably a combination of different blends. I feel like the guy in that MacArthur Park song, I'll "never have that recipe again". At least I didn't leave the cake out in the rain.

Beginning of playing around to become a blender of your own favorites.
A nice accidental discovery.
I've done a little something similar a couple of times. It's always tasted pretty good and is a great way to have a "new" blend without opening a whole new tin or jar.

I've done that. Sometimes I've packed a pipe for the next day, and I never get to it, and I just can't remember which of two or three blends I packed. Or like you, sometimes I put together a mix of blends and can't remember which they were.

Whether I remember the recipes or not, I've found that home mixes often give some of the best smokes. Maybe it is because I've engaged my ego in it, or that I'm lucky, but it seems true.

Ha! I’m smoking one of those now! Only I can taste the Granger in it and am pretty sure I bolstered it up an with an equal amount of Old Joe Krantz Blue Label. But can’t be certain. Found it in my garage cabinet folded neatly in a paper towel and dried to a crisp! Tasty

You’re lying.

I know you smoked some granger leftovers mixed with dusty granger from 2002 and some recently opened granger sparkled on top.

Don’t try to play us here with that old joe krantz bullshit. That was probably some granger that was so old it got spicier.

You know, that could be true! The last two cans of Granger were bulging and circa 2014. The can open now was ordered in 2021.
