Wow! I totally dig that pipe. I've never seen one where the rusticated effect goes on to the bit.

When I first saw this pipe I thought it might be a Burns touched pipe.
Robert Burns would buy pipes like you and I, then work his magic on them with a dremel.
I'm not familiar with any Holm carved pipes that look like this one, but obviously I haven't seem them all.
Here is the Pipedia link for Micoli pipes.

I've also never seen a Preben Holm like that, almost positive it is not. Or a Celius for that matter and he put out some of the more "wilder" I guess you could say during that period.

Its an unusual piece to say the least. There is a marking on the underside- looks like a churchwarden and a W. That's all that I can find on the pipe.

Still looking for other treasures.

Really unique combination of smooth and rusticated.
"Ferb, I know how we are going to make our next pipe!" If you have kids who like Disney, you understand this statement.

I agree that this looks like a Micoli, he rusticated the stems on many of his later pipes.

Phineas and Ferb? It has to be, where else does the name Ferb come up? A good friend of mines children go nuts for that show too I should mention.

mlaug, I had never heard of Micoli before but the work does suggest it could be his. The mark on the bottom of the pipe could be an "M". I need to find more examples of his work.

This is turning into a fun little mystery. Thanks for the lead.

Its just that the overall dremel work was so striking, I immediately thought of Burns.
What makes identifying it tricky is he would buy off the shelf pipes from a variety of makers. If I had to bet, I'd say it is one of his. It isn't in the Holm style at all, or any other carver that worked under the Harcourt name.
His pipes come up on ebay occasionaly and bring good money.

I have to agree that it does not look like the work usually associayted with Holm. From what I read, I'm begining to wonder if this was made for Lane Ltd before the Harcourt line was bought by Dunhill. The waters are a bit murky.
