Pipe smokers are certainly an eclectic, and sometimes an eccentric bunch. History is filled with some famous names of leaders, writers, and other creative types that also happened to be pipe smokers. Years and years ago I'm riding with a friend around Iowa City when we were undergrads and we found ourselves listening to Paul Harvey on the radio for his usual bit. He's talking about a small boy whose father, as a punishment, sent him down to the local police station to be jailed, where he was jailed for a short time, but not told he would only be there a short time and how that impacted him, etc.

The boy . . . Alfred Hitchcock (and now you know the ressssst of the story, lol).

We both pretty much exclaimed at the same time (and not printable) how much that story explained about his movies, haha, and ever since it's not hard to spot the influences or recognize some of the themes that came from that experience.

Seriously weird thing to do to a little kid.
