Politicians seem to be awakening to the fact that economoc realities trump the pseudo-facts of the Smoke Nazis.

It all comes down to the money in the end.
Exactly, the Anti-tobacco Nazis have gone too far in too short a time. They can't illegalize smoking while the idea of the old man, probably a WWII veteran, smoking a pipe on a park bench still persists. Now the pendulum is swinging back and the politicians use the same points we always tried to make people understand (for example concerning ETS). I hope that people will soon learn that while pubs/bars/restaurants etc. are OPEN to the public, they DON'T BELONG to the public. It's the difference the sheeple often fail to understand.
Hope emerges after all!

Great point lagavulin. The sheeple also have the freedom of choice to go to a place that is smoke-free, instead of complaining about a place that allows smoking.

"Roll-back" isn't for Wal-Mart only. 8)
Let's roll back these asinine smoking bans!

Common sense and tolerance. Most people love the strong smell of a bonfire flying in their face and fondly think of their camping experiences but they cannot stand a small quality cigarette lit 10 yards away from them.
MORNING NEWS POLL: Should overweight college students be required to take a fitness class to graduate?

Yes: 29%

No: 71%
MIDDAY NEWS POLL: Do you research the safety of children's products before you purchase them?

Yes: 36%

No: 64%
NEWS AT NINE POLL: Should the ban on smoking in bars be repealed?

Yes: 65%

No:35 %
The poll results show very consistently that the majority believes in the right to make lifestyle choices (moderate obesity being the harmless looking example put in up front).
The polls also show that many parents don't believe in any true and uncontrolled danger for kids if asked in a neutral and innocious way. They probably don't believe either that their kids will start smoking because of "bad influences".

The third poll asks implicitly the same thing, but only in a more pronounced way. That's when the numbers are swapped. Parents who'd have been more cautious about the kids environment (toys) in the first way would have weeded out possible "bad influences" such as smokers in bars. Parents who know that their kids understand the pointless danger of smoking cigarettes won't be concerned of smoke-filled bars.
Show these results to bystanders slightly siding the Nazis and they will think about their fundamental and comical bias. They've been conditioned into thinking that tobacco is evil while they are taught to tolerate other risky behaviours such as sky diving or munching on mountains of junk food.

You know it used to have a meaning in Congress when you said smoke filled rooms. The world got along great for centuries with people being able to smoke in bars and other establishments. With all that is going on in the world right now, it does not make sense for all the energies spent trying to take smokers rights away from us when they could be constructive elsewhere. I hope we are truly seeing the tide turn back the other way.

The only smoke coming out of Wshington,DC is that which is being blown up our bascksides. The Senate would rather go after us and athletes taking growth hormones than concentrate on the real business at hand.

I never understood the ban on smoking in bars. I'm only 26, but all my life when I've heard the word bar the first image that pops into my head is a man at a stool with a shot glass and a smoke. I liked Eddie Izzard's joke on that in Dressed To Kill DVD "No smoking in bars, and pretty soon no eating and no drinking. You'll all be like "Let's hit the library for a wild time."" It is good to see people realizing the money loss when they ban smoking in places like bars and casinos. A smoking license is a good way to combat those anti-tobacco weirdos. Worked with alcohol, why not tobacco.
