Before eBay: Monthly Pipe Mailers
I found a bag of old pipe mailers ranging from the mid to late 90’s today (3 or 4 dozen) while cleaning out my garage. Mailers from Nikos Levin, Edwards Tobacco and R&E Pipes.
If I remember, it was in the fall of 1995 that eBay came on line and began to slowly strangle this more costly and less efficient type of direct marketing. No judgment here, it is the way of the world, things change. Too bad though, these were a lot of fun and the monthly arrival of a Levin or Edwards mailer was a great excuse for a nice sit down and a B&B (bowl and beverage) as you poured over the photos.
From a pre eBay world, photos from a Nikos Levin mailer dated May 1995.

Some of those prices make me yearn for a past I never knew.
Your post got me to thinking so just for kicks I googled a comp of the CPI for the period 1995 to 2019.
Ray

“U.S. Inflation Rate, $1 in 1995 to 2019
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics consumer price index, today's prices in 2019 are 68.35% higher than average prices throughout 1995. The dollar experienced an average inflation rate of 2.19% per year during this period, meaning the real value of a dollar decreased.
In other words, $1 in 1995 is equivalent in purchasing power to about $1.68 in 2019, a difference of $0.68 over 24 years.”
