Smoke slowly . Dry your tobacco a bit before smoking it. If you get gurgles, shove a cleaner down the stem to absorb the excess moisture. I am sure others have more hints.

Sager:
When you load your pipe place a small amount of tobacco on the botton and tamp lightly like is popcorn. Then load your pipe a little more and tamp with your finger load once more to the top and tamp with your finger for the last time then light for your scorching light. This series of tamping should help avoid your gurgaling pope. Good luck.

Drying the tobacco a bit does help, I prefer mine to be pretty dry before smoking. As Uncle Arthur said, smoke more slowly. Also, it is possible you are packing it too tightly which will cause moisture problems as well.
