I picked up one of these pipes recently: https://corncobpipe.com/great-dane-spool-maple-hardwood-pipe.html
And wow! Talk about a great smoker! It's got a nice deep bowl that is easy to pack, and the draw is just PERFECT for me.
The initial smoke did have some unrecognized flavors, but once the ash started to coat the bowl, my Dunhill EM flavors were back to normal.
The only drawback is that it won't sit on its own, even though the flat bottom would make you think it could.

That's great to hear eugene! I looked at these a while back and seriously contemplated getting one (or two). I sometimes smoke the MM cobs although I could never get their stems to seal tightly in the shank after the first several months of use--which is probably a result of the abuse I put them through...but they were cheap, and when out target shooting or fishing, cheap disposable pipes are nice to have around. That said, with this one I was intrigued by the maple wood bowl; my wife and I are big revolutionary war buffs (my wife is in the Daughter's of the American Revolution in fact) and the South's role in the war, and supposedly this was one of the first woods used to make pipes in the southern US during that period...so it's sort of nostalgic. You've just re-sparked my interest!

One of the small whaling museums in up-state New York used one of the hardwood pipes to illustrate the smoking supplies of the whaling sailors, along with a cloth drawstring bag of tobacco with a tax stamp attached. I thought the pipe was a good choice.

I own one of those except it's the cob version. Think I gave about 9 or 10 bucks for it, great smoker too. It's one of my go to travel pipes. If I break or lose it then no biggie.
