You'll get a lot of responses to this one. Quite a few members make their own blends. I've never had the courage although with the right pairings there could be some interesting concoctions.

Altadis' "Fox & Hound" becomes an exceptional smoke with the addition of 25% Toasted Cavendish from Walgreens!
Does that make it a scottish blend?

I've just tried mixing tobaccos for the first time and it is an amazing flavor. The mixture was 1/3 Black Forest Cavendish, 1/3 Sherlock's Discovery which is a latakia/burley english blend and 1/3 Sweet Black Cherry which is my 2nd favorite aromatic. The result is a strong tobacco flavor with just a hint of cherry and vanilla. I think i'll be experimenting with mixing more cause this is great.

aromatics must be fun to mix. I was thinking of getting some of the many flavors of mcclellands. they have basically every flavor that "jelly belly" would have only in tobacco form. If i ever get some cash in my pocket I'm gonna go on a blending spree. For now i'm all spent just bought lots of tobacco.

I think it'd probably be best to have it some English and some aromatics. This will allow you to smoke aromatics while maintaining the great taste of the english tobaccos. While people who do not appreciate the smell of english blends will still have the aromatic aroma to enjoy.

Lately I have been mixing either PS navy flake and PS bullseye. Or PS Navy flake with the PS twist flake. Very mice.

well said merry, i really dslike when you can't actually taste the tobacco because there is too much casing. I have some straight VA that is a little sweet and would probably mix well to balance out any overpowering flavors.

I'm not above amending a blend to nudge the flavor in some direction, like adding a particular leaf to benefit from its properties.

But to me, blending large percentages of finished blends together seems a whole lot like playing with your food.

I am mindful, however, that some pro's (Ouellette comes to mind), got their start by tweaking finished blends.

I believe in the Kiss method when it comes to mixing tobaccos.

I figure that the blenders know more than I ever will.

So, I keep it simple....
50/50 BCA and 1Q.

Very nice!

If you don't care for one of the blends that you come up with don't write it off as a lost cause, seal it tightly and let it sit for 3-6 months. Allowing the different tobaccos to meld can make a difference in the final result.
I like PS Aroma Dutch Slices as a blending component. For me, it's too mild by itself but it does a good job of bringing out flavors in other blends.

I like to play around with different blends, I usually take about a bowls worth of the two (or three) to tobaccos and mix it and try it out, that way I am only out two or three bowls of tobacco!

Esoterica's St. Ives is a bore on its own but I've found it adds a nice depth and smoothness to some aromatics. One mix I particularly enjoyed was Germains Special Latakia Flake with Smokers Haven Krumble Kake.

Anyone mix PA with anything? I am interested to hear if there are any good mixtures with it.

80% Dunhill 965 and 20% Dunhill Nightcap was all I smoked until Lane and Dunhill deserted us.

One I like alot now is 2 oz. Prince Albert, 2 oz. McCelland 5110 and 1/2 oz. Partagas cigar leaf.

I just started mixing up alot of different blends and they have all been exactly what one would expect the two flavors to taste like....so far, nothing but success and I've now got about 20 new blends to try. I got some Butternut Burley from pipesandcigars.com and used it as the base, then tried mixing 50/50 with others I had in my stash.

Try 4 parts PA , 1 part Latakia, and1 part red virginia. VERY good, even better if you can let it sit for about 6 months!

In the "What Are You Smoking?" thread I always state that I'm smoking P.A.

It's really P.A. with 5% Perique and 1¼% Latakia -- killer mix.
For a 14oz. tub of P.A., add 20 gr. Perique & 5 gr Latakia.
In Flanative's recipe, I think you'll find McC's 5100:Va. Red Cake to be the red Va. of choice.
