Not the exact blend, but I couldn't help but notice A. They have virtually the same ingredients, and B. They are both very enjoyable.
I haven't tried them side by side and my palette is, as some might put it, "unrefined" but the one pretty thoroughly reminded me of the other, maybe with a little more Latakia (in Presbyterian).
The big question is: Mississippi River is available in bulk, Presbyterian is not, do you still bother with Presbyterian?

Presbyterian is awesome. It is really sharp right out of the tin and I think I might be a bit reactionary to it so I let it sit, by itself, in a mason jar to teach it a lesson.

Presbyterian is sour tasting whereas Mississippi River does not have that element to it. I have both as I think they are different tobaccos.

My thought is more that Mississippi River may be to Presbyterian what White Knight is to Balkan Sobranie. Maybe not to quite that extent, but still an imitation of sorts.
Husky, do you keep both or prefer one over the other?

I know this is an old thread but I am a new pipe tobacco smoker and have both. I find Presbyterian and Mississippi River to taste a little different. Im smoking a bowl of Presbyterian right now and I am enjoying the Latakia in it. It tastes slightly more mellow than MR with more Latakia. I love it!

Another great Americana blend, though recently introduced, is Russ O.'s Log Cabin, which is only sold in bulk. A pleasing price for a great cob and weekend blend. It's non-aromatic but more mellow and easy going than many aros.

Need to get me some of that Log Cabin.
I really like MR. I think it's fantastic. Complex, unique, slightly sweet, spicy and tart. Good damn stuff.

I think this is one of the first threads I ever started.
When you're new even the most minute similarity between blends can seem like a big deal, probably just a few Orientals in this case. I don't think these blends are very much alike anymore, Presbyterian is more Oriental heavy and Mississippi River seems more like a good VaPer with some English tones thrown in.

The Mississippi River is DEFINITELY Southern Baptist... NOT Presbyterian!!! HAhahahahahahaaaaa... sorry... I just had to! (The Presbyterians ended up in FL and AZ!)

Presbyterian would be killer with Dark Fired Kentucky Burley instead of the Latakia. As it is, it is mostly killer. Great stuff.

And go way north on the Mississippi River and you've got the Looserans!! Scandanavians everywhere! I wonder if any great Dane pipe makers are in the mix?! (sorry for the silliness off topic :)
