Our Featured Interview on The Pipes Magazine Radio Show tonight is our Part II with Mike McNiel. Mike is part of the husband & wife team that run McClelland Tobacco Company. McClelland is one of the most popular boutique pipe tobacco companies, and Mike has been in the tobacco business since he was a teenager. He has so much history and experience in the business that he has forgotten more about tobacco than most of us will ever know. In the "Pipe Parts" segment, Brian will talk about some of the common traits that most pipe smokers share.

Very interesting listen, parts 1 & 2! Now I know why I like a lot of their tobaccos so much, because he only gets the best leaf and he seems to care about what happens to it. His comments on his Syrian stock, Oriental varietals, and the possible fate of Cyprian Latakia was all very informative, and I was wondering what was going to happen to the Christmas Cheer '16 and '17 that he was talking about working on, in regards to the upcoming FDA regs. I searched and could not find an answer, although I thought that I had seen some people posting asking about it. :puffpipe:

I just listened to these two podcasts the other day, it seems odd to me that no one else besides Balkansobrains caught the part where Mike discussed the impending loss of Cyprian Latakia in the near future. We all know about the loss of Syrian Latakia, but this was the first and only time I've heard someone, especially someone so connected to all of the relevant tobacco players predict the loss of Cyprian Latakia. This was as big of an "oh shit" moment as the first time I read about the FDA Deeming regs..

I haven't heard the podcast yet. Will try to get it in sometime soon but in the meantime can someone fill me in on the impending Cyprian Latakia Apocalypse?

I have thought of that very real possibility, as did, likely, the blending houses, but long term, surely, Mark Ryan will come up with an equally savory alternative.

Never mind... just finished listening to both parts. I think his fears are unwarranted but he's the guy with the money that has to make the decisions.
