I watched a fella on tv make wooden bowl.He was using this micro mesh to polish them.He said that the military uses it to polish wind shields on F18 jets.Anyone ever heard of this item.I'm wondering if it's available, and if it is would it be good to use on pipes and or stems.

Micro Mesh is good stuff. I also use it on my pipe stems. Hitting them with the mesh and some obsidian oil makes them look brand spankin new. :puffy:

Every estate pipe I work on, the stem gets hit with Micro Mesh. Really handy to have around, and they do last awhile if you keep them clean.

What grades are recommended for stem work?
I've started using all of them, the first six grades I use wet then the last three I use them dry. Finish up with some Obsidian and the shine is incredible. It may be overkill to go through all the grades, but I really like the result. YMMV. So I buy the full set.

This thread reminded me that I had some micro mesh left over from a headlight restore kit.

Just worked over an old stem that was starting to oxidize, buffed it up with obsidian oil and it looks amazing!

So much disgusting yellow brown came out of the stem while sanding.

There are a number of micromesh threads here, with a lot or sources. I also listed an cheaper alternative to micromesh, in the same grades. I found that I only use the 6000>8000>12000 grades and use 1500 & 2000 grit automotive wet paper before that. As mentioned, the Reborn Pipes has a on materials as well, including micromesh and the new alternative.

Micro-Mesh is the stuff Puffy. I definitely have had great success with with my kit of 1500-12000 grit. I think I paid about 15 bucks for it on eBay. I have 8 to 10 sheets along the range and it is high quality stuff with a cloth backing that will last you a long time.
