Well, here it is another Memorial Day,and another excuse for me to be grumpy. All up and down my street, mine is always the only flag waving outside. Although I don't expect neighbors to join the handful of ceremony attendees, at least they could put out a flag before heading out to the beach. I know I still carry some survivor guilt from 42 years ago, which is prompting this annual disappointment. One year a local merchant planted tiny flags on every lawn in town. Nobody since took the hint. I guess around here you have to be a vet or directly connected to a service-person to have any realization. I thank this forum for giving me the opportunity to finally vent this hot-button.

If it makes you feel better, a local realtor in my area stuck small American Flags by each driveway in my neighborhood.
Makes me feel better about flying my personal flag at half staff until noon as is appropiate.

To all of my brothers in arms take a moment and remember we all served with someone who did not make it home.

To all who did not serve please give the veterans of this great nation the respect we deserve for our sacrifices.

To the rest of america who is out at the mall please feel free to shut up until you have the intestinal fortitude to walk a mile in a veterans shoes.

Thank you all who gave up a part of thier life for freedom because freedom is not free.

I'd like to thank all that have served for our country. Whether you lost your life or made it home, you made a difference.

My heart goes out to all of the families that have a relative in the service or have lost one in it.

All but two of my uncles and my grandpa were in the military for WWII and Vietnam. I also have a couple cousins serving right now.

Although the military was not my call, I have the utmost respect for those who do fight for our freedom.

God bless America and tonight I will smoke a pipe for all of those who have served this great country!

spent sat placing flags on vet's graves. was kinda funny seeing us old farts hobling through the cemetary...
as far as flags go, the little pissant town i live in puts up close to 3,000 full sized flags for every holliday. they line the main north/south and east/west drags.
