I was cleaning out this pipe, and noticed that I wasn't scraping away any more cake...and realized that this pipe may be lined with meerschaum! I know that Kaywoodie used to do this somewhat often, but I can't tell if this is one of those or not. So I yield to the more experienced eyes of the forum!

Thanks!

Excellent! Then I'll just have to wait a few hours so the last of the whiskey'll evaporate out of it, and then it'll be time to give it a try!

I would second Bubba's assertion that this is a meerschaum lined bowl.....back in the "old days" I had a few of these that were nice smokers.... :D

I recently obtained a Dr Grabow imported Italian that has a meerschaum lined bowl.

I cleaned it up and it is a good smoker. Going to clean it again and start a high polish on it.

If nothing else there is a separation of the inner-bowl, so unless it comes out yeapper looks like you've got a meer. . .that needs cleaning heh heh.
I'e actaully been curios about meerschaum-lined bowls. I mean ideally it would ahve the best of both worlds. the attractiveness and shape of a briar, but with a meerschaum bowl -- but always wondered if the direct contact with the wood and its basic insulation of the stone would pose an issue with the meer bowl.

Meer lined pipes schmoke well for me. Having the meer encased in briar, they are not as fragile as a meer. I would not hesitate to carry it and treat it like a briar.
After schmoking, the meershaum becomes a little soft from the condensation and care taken as to not score or scratch the bowl.

Gave it a smoke a few hours ago, when I had some guests over...it smokes quite well! Especially since it cost me only 7.50!

Hilson made a line of meer lined pipes called Fantasia, they were a "plastic" marble swirl in a variety of colors and shapes. The one I smoke I try to keep cake free by a good wiping out after every smoke.
