Might Stick Around

This is a meershaum lined estate I was given. I like the looks of this one and would like to restore it. The lining comes above the rim. My questions:
1. Is the lining above the rim normal for this style pipe?

2. Best way to correct the lining if this is not normal?
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Hi Groundsar,

I have never seen this occur before.

My initial thought was that the lining may have come from another pipe and was inserted into this pipe because the previous owner liked the way it smoked in "the first pipe". Maybe the other pipe was a trusted old friend that went to the great pipe rest in the sky and he wanted to save a part of it.

Just a thought.

Meerschaum is very soft. You may be able to carefully pare it down to the top of the bowl.

Or you may try sanding it down to the top also.

Either it worked its own way out of the bowl, it is a replacement from another pipe, or the maker was eccentric -- either way oldmaus has it, you can set it straight if you like, or leave it as is.
