Meerschaum Cleaning

How do I clean the beeswax coating on my meer? There are a couple of spots that are grime and not tobacco patina. I tried water and microfiber but that didn't really cut through.

I've always used water and a soft bristle toothbrush

I've also just used warm water and a towel. One of my meers was used during working on the jeep apparently, and I constantly had to clean my black thumb marks off it.

It's not simply bees wax.

I tried water and microfiber but that didn't really cut through.

It's not simple grime then. Something else. I use water and a paper towel to lift simple body oils and dirt.

Spit on a clean thumb and gentle rubbing works for me, but I don't have particularly high standards.
