Meer Stem Removal

I recently purchased a meerschaum pipe and I'm not sure how to remove the stem without damaging the pipe. Does the stem push in like with a regular briar or thread out? It's an SMS meerschaum pipe.

Turn it clock-wise as you pull the stem off, you may have to go round and round if its really tight.
