I picked up a Medico Pipe from a Anitique Shop (Great Places to hunt for pipes) and I have had some problems because of the filter holder and small bowl. Other then that they seem to be comparible to Dr. Grabows...Whats the history of common drug store pipes and who else made them

The Medico, Yellow-Bowl,and Kaywoodie were all made by the same company, now S.M. Frank in Peekskill, NY. Google Kaywoodie and you will find a lot of info on this company back to it's roots in the 1850's. Was there Sat. for a pipe celebration.

Both pipes are made by the same company- S.M. Frank. Check out their web sitr for a full and interesting history. The older pipes are quite treasured for their quality and affordability.

I have also come across some urathane pipes too... There might have been a dozen or more mass producers of pipes at one time. Now we are down to 2. Dr Grabow and Missorie Mercham

Pipedia is a handy reference for pipe related subjects. Here's a link to their listing on S. M. Frank & Co.:
