Me And The Little Man On A Sunday Afternoon

I wasn't particularly warm, but the sun was shining and the wind was gone so my son and I headed to the mucky backyard to play. I pulled out my new Trypis (thanks again Pat, can't seem to put the damn thing down) and loaded it up with CH to continue the break in process. We played on the swings, ran races (crap the little bugger is fast) and kicked a ball around as he starts soccer for the first time this summer (he just turned 4). At one point he stopped running and said "that smells good Daddy, can you get my pipe so I look like you?" So I went and got his MM Mini Cob and took these pictures. It was a good day!

DUDE - that TOTALLY rocks. I wanted to take a pic like that with my son but I figured the way things work here in the People's Republik of NJ that DYFUS would come and take him since I was endangering the health of a minor or some crap.
True story - a local guy was teaching his son gun safety and was proud of his boy and he posted a pic of his son holding a shotgun SAFELY and RESPONSIBLY. The next day cops show up at his house and try to confiscate his guns. Big brother is ALWAYS watching here. I am sure you all have it much better up there.

Edit: Dan, that's crazy! Remember Popeye cigarettes and licorice pipes? What about water guns or playing cowboys and Indians? I didn't grow up to be some crazed lunatic (well perhaps ask my wife on that), so what the hell is the harm in a little toy pipe so a son can be like Daddy? I have a close friend who works with Children's Aid here and she thought the picture was great. It was supposed to be cute, if anyone takes it as other than that they need their heads examined!

Great father / son time. I've got a five and nine year old, so I can relate. The older one doesn't like the pipe, but thd younger one sure does. Oh well. Pop smokes a pipe. Deal with it. At least my wife is cool with the idea, and doesn't mind me smoking in front of the boys - as long as its outside. I've got a bunch of Bill Peet children's books, and, as they were done in the 50s and 60s, often have pipe smoking characters in them. My boys get a kick out of those..

I have a 10 year old daughter Kashmir, she's not jazzed on the pipe either, but my boy follows me around all the time and asks to touch my pipes when he sees me cleaning them. He loves the smell, hopefully he'll have the same kind of memories I do of my Grandfathers who both smoked pipes.

That is a great story Brian and I totally agree with what you do. I always used to pick my kids up some bubble gum cigars when I went to my local B&M to get some sticks. They would imitate me taking off the wrapper and then putting in my mouth. Of course the little kid in them took over and they chomped them down like they were...well....candy
Funny story Kashmir - when I used to smoke my churchwarden often (usually after watching LOTR's a few times) I would sit out on my patio and smoke. My son would grab a radio antenna off of one of his toys and sit with me and pretend to smoke. It was the cutest freaking thing that I never got a picture of.

My kid has little pipes too. I love it. There are many things shunned and forbidden these days, which surprises me when half the parents I know give their kids zombie pills to make up for their lack of child rearing skills.
