So I packed up my new Pete Tankard P-Lip with some McC Yenidje Supreme that all came in my order today.
The pipe is great and I like the P-Lip design. The tobacco smelled like ketchup when I opened the tin, which I don't mind, but I kept smelling it to see if I could smell the tobacco and I just couldn't. While smoking I can taste a little of that ketchup taste and a little of the tobacco. I am sipping slow as I've never smoked a filterless pipe before. This tobacco has very mild taste unless you take a huge haul off the pipe. It is good with very light flavors and the room note is nice as well. All in all it's a good tobacco. Would I order it again, probably not as I have trouble finding the tobacco taste amoungst the ketchup-y taste.

Let it dry a bit and revisit it, I find McClellands I have to open a tin and let it dry a few days before it's at an acceptable moisture content for smoking well, and then the flavours start to come out. I like the Black sea sokoum from that line, it's very cigar like actually.

+1 rothnh. I haven't yet gotten around to the Yenidje Supreme, but that "ketchup" smell -- and I would curse the person who first decided to call the aroma of these fine Virginias "ketchupy" -- is the aroma of a well-aged Virginia from -- IMO -- the best blender of Virginias in the country.
I'd encourage you to smoke slowly, try this one in a variety of pipes (I'm not sure you did yourself any favors trying a new-to-you blend in a brand-new pipe), and give it a fair shake before taking it off your list.

Put some on the shelf for a couple years, it's amazing.

I recently got a couple more tins, and was not impressed.

However,I'll just put it on the shelf and know that it will come around.

Wow thanks for the info guys! I have to pick up a case of Mason jars this weekend for storeage. I will jar it up and try it again when summer come. I'm not going to open the Highlander until the Supreme is is gone. I cracked open like 4 tins, tried them then jarred them up. I will be ordering lots more tobacco so I'm-a need lots more jars. My wife made a comment to me about the amount of tobacco I have (which isn't even close to 2.5lb) I said I want to reach 25lb or more in the cellar and she just gave me a wierd look and went upstairs lol

I'm crossing my fingers that you'll really enjoy the Yenidje Highlander when you eventually get around to it. It ranks very highly in my book. (And in my cellar. . . 56 tins so far.)

Cav, I know you did the math. If you haven't yet, the next time you get the ubiquitous "eye roll," show her the math. I did that, walked her through it as to why stocking up now makes sense, and it helped a lot.
I did and she still thinks it's costly lol. the example I gave her was this; a 'carton' of MacB's Royal or Regular is $44 no tax on the rez. That's 5 x 50g pouches for $44 sounds cheap compared to $23 per 50g tin/pouch at the variety stores(s). Order 1 lb from noggins or smokingpipes and its under $30. 1lb works out to almost 9 (nine) 50g pouches! It would be $207 to buy each one in town. On the rez they are $8.80ea. if bought in a carton. If you buy singles they are $12. So it would be $79.20 for 9 if I paid carton price, or $108 if I pay individual price. When I buy them online 50g works out to $3.33ea. OFC shipping is in there but when one buys in bulk the shipping doesnt make much difference in the end price.
She will come around. For some reason some women just don't like pipes or anything to do with them. She said she doesn't like the smell but on the same hand she doesn't mind some of the smells sometimes. Woman can't make up her mind lol. She HATES the smell of cigars. When I smoke one on the patio she goes inside or sits upwind so she cant smell it. W/E you can please some of the people some of the time, but not all the people all the time.

My first bowl of the Classic Samsun was the same, so subtle that I only started to figure it out near the end of the bowl. Not something to smoke while mowing the lawn, it requires focus as Roth said.
