I offered tins of this several months ago for $100 per tin, and folks told me it was too much. Glad I kept it.

Glad I kept it.
Why are you glad you kept it?

Because you thought it was best to keep it to smoke... or that you see tobacco as a value increasing commodity that you can gouge the community for later down the line?

Back in.... I sent an email curious to see if it's dated 2017 or 2018. I'll report back when they advise.

Price has also gone up a fraction. Every time they restock, it creeps up. Fair enough though.... capitalism is king.
Change of heart on capitalism?

C'mon, Mike... we all know you keep buying back your own stuff at higher and higher prices to get people excited, then bail at just the right moment.
How do I know? Like FIRST HAND know??? That "special" tin of Captain Black you said Bing Crosby once owned that I paid you $15,000 for didn't even get a sniff at $10K only a week later. (I figured two could play the speculation game)

It's his to do with what he likes. If he wants to flip for increased prices, more power to him. The market always pays what the market pays.

Personally I've never, not once, sold a single gram of tobacco. Gifted plenty, but never sold it.

I'd recommend keeping what one has in order to smoke or share.
Oh, and I appreciate you taking the time to look back through my posts to find an awfully incriminating post that shows my clear lack of conviction.I appreciate that you find my opinions important.

I cannot understand why anyone would be angry at someone who sells a tin of rare tobacco for a lot of money. It's a luxury item, totally unneccesary, given all the tobacco that's available.

If you're referring to me, workman, just to be clear..... I'm not even in the slightest bit angry. I f he sells for $1000 a tin, then good for him.

My first post in this thread was just to query why he (the OP) was happy he didn't sell the first time around for $100 per tin.

I personally don't pay high premiums for unobtainables as I've found so many obtainable blends that are great, I think it is a bit silly. However, as long as it is ethical and legal, I don't care what someone does with their tobacco, pipes or their money. And attempting to sell tobacco and pipes for whatever amount the owner wishes, no matter how high, is ethical IMHO.
Gouging for gas, water and other basic essentials during a natural disaster is immoral, unethical and in many cases, illegal. While some of us may consider it a basic essential, more of us will die from smoking tobacco than from not being able to buy it.

For those of you who don't know him---meaning in real life---"chilly65" is one of our hobby's founders, not some opportunistic newcomer or etc. Also, he's an authentic nice guy. He DOES have a streak of observational humor that sensitive people sometimes find upsetting, but I can assure you he's just wanting to share something he finds amusing. Nothing more, nothing less.
In short, please don't go into "campaign mode" with this thread.
Thank you.

Dagnabbit. Going into campaign mode is why I got into pipe smoking in the first place!
(And shootin' from the hip.)

Good stuff... wow! We're all going to be rich! Thank you Mike & Mary. I'll be holding onto mine too, until a tin of Red Ribbon fetches a pure bred basset hound without bumps. #!%& I can't wait!

Gouging?? Really? Please read what Harris wrote. Selling tobacco in a free market at any price is fine, and not price gouging by any reasonable definition of same. And in some states, there are strict laws and penalties for price gouging on water, gas, food and medicine during an emergency. Enforcement of same has proven difficult.

On any given day, the same McClelland Tobaccos sell for different prices depending on who is buying. The two tins of Dark Star are 20 years old, which puts them in a different category than new tins. The tin of Frog Morton Across The Pond contains Syrian Latakia, which is now kaput.
Nobody is forcing anyone to pay these prices. The buyers are making a choice to do so. If there's a wound involved, it's a self inflicted one. If they are happy with their purchase, no foul. I would have a different opinion if it were a life saving medicine. In that instance I'd be happy to push the seller through a wood chipper with no regrets. Tobacco is a luxury, and rare vintage tobacco even more so.
I buy tobacco to smoke it. But if I had to quit and sell off my cellar, I'd go for what the market offers. If someone wants to pay me a ridiculous sum of money for it, that's their choice.
There are many great choices readily available at regular retail.

Heh, I bought some tins of Vintage Syrian last year in order to re-sell them at insane prices. Guess I'm now Olkofri the Gouger. (Wonder how you'd say 'gouger' in old Icelandic...)

Upon reflection, , I shouldn't have used the word "gouge". I retract the word. Was intending to enquire if the OP was happy if he kept the items for either smoking, or increased sales potential down the line.
@georged

Thanks for your post and insight. When I read the OP with the tone and intent you advised, it did make me smile. :)

Way to keep him honest. I for one am glad to see several members sing a different tune in this thread. Some have extensively berated others for selling others for selling rare stuff for a premium, glad to see that changing.
