I recently bought a vintage tin of Plumcake. I bought this as I am wokring my way into Latakia and have been enjoying Plumcake. I am actually working my way through a tin now and was curious what age does to a tin of this stuff. Does anyone cellar Plumcake?

Vintage tin I bought - Anyone know how old this is? Person I bought it from says 10-15 years.

I opened the tin today, I have to say loved the stuff, ready to smoke right out of the tin and a cool well burning smoke. I like the full body flavor and this is going in to my top 5 for sure. No tongue bite and I almost always get it with other tobaccos.
I am new so I can’t describe the different tastes but I liked it allot. I should have started from this to avoid unwanted tongue bite.

I have two yet unopened tins of PC and this thread inspires me to crack one open!

Recently perdurabo sent me a tin of Mac Baren Plumcake and while I'm not a aromatic smoker per say, this is certainly not the gooey PG filled stuff. Its fairly dry and ready to smoke right out of the tin. Now one thing for sure it forces me to sip, or I am rewarded with a ferocious tongue attack but not from PG or moiture. Really do like to taste however.
Thanks perdurabo, I smoke some about once a week and going to put most of it aside for aging per huntertrw's post.

Hawke, it does age nice, I have as smidgen in a jar. GLP Sextant is a much better version IMHO. I experimented pressing some of it. Hawke you may want to dry some out and give it a press. It calmed down some of the bite. I've read,(this may not be true) that the Latakia is of the Syrian variety. Can anyone confirm that?

Not even the same animal. Love both, Plumcake a bit more, but Sextant is a rum enhanced English, and Plumcake is an English aromatic. Sextant is more like a broken flake taste match for Black Frigate. As for being Syrian in Plumcake, the latakia presence is so mild, I can't tell. As for difference between aged and new, I buy pound bags of the stuff fairly regularly, and go through it too quickly to cellar.

The main reason I started to back off Plumcake was the Elmers Glue note I was getting. Does anyone else get that note, when smoking Plumcake? Yea, Plumcake is more of an aromatic than Sextant. True.
I want to try BlackFrigate and if it's close to Sextant, I'll have to push the bottom on it.

I may have to give it another go. Made my way through a 3.5 oz tin a while back, and confess I had a difficult time getting a lot of flavor from the blend. However, I've been enjoying MacBaren blends recently. Do you find a lot of latakia flavor in the blend? Last time I tried it, I remember getting just the faintest whisper and nothing more.
