I Hope this is the correct forum for this..

I am rounding out my final pipe for my pipe rotation.
So while drooling and perusing the store site I ran across a Mastro Gepetto Rusticate natural bent apple that just caught my eye...and my last pipe I want is a jaw hanger...
However thread searches here and also on the ol' inner webs do not reveal much.
Can anyone advise one way or the other?
It's just a shade over what I was wanting to spend, but it does something for me....
It's a little heavy, but not too much so...I just want to get something else besides my somewhat primarily Savanelli collection.

So any input from those who have one would be greatly appreciated.

M

First, Geppetto pipes are made by Ser Jacopo.

While I have never owned a Geppetto, I do have a couple Ser Jacopos and they are among my top favorites. I have one that is a lot like the one you are considering and it's a fantastic smoker. I LOVE the styling of their pipes and they feel good too!

This brand (Ser Jacopo) is famous for bigger, slightly in your face pipes on the edgy side. They fit my style (and hand!) like a glove. If you have a Savinelli 320 KS, this pipe is like a bent version.

If you like bigger pipes you will love this pipe. It's not your same-as-everybody-else-Peterson.

YMMV..

Thanks, yes I have two 320 KS...well I will sometime next week...I have been using my Savinelli 645, and 602....
And my first cob....
So this would be a crem' dela crem' last purchase new pipe...and would give me seven fresh beauties to play with, and that will take a nice long while.
I tried liking the Nording's but they just are not my style.
And I have a Neering coming too.

Whatever it is, I want to order today to get the last part of the sale...

After this purchase I may one day delve into estate pipes.

The big difference in my mind is that the Ser Jacopos may use a curved drill bit, where the Geppettos won't. But I have a 308 which is basically a straight pipe with the slightest hint of a bend in the stem, that smokes really well.
Ser Jacopo vs. Geppetto

I have only the one, a rusticated straight billiard with a flume finish around the top. It's a good smoker and one of my favorite pipes that should get more use. I use it for VAs and Va/Per blends which I don't smoke much of.

Pull the trigger. You know you want to!

I don't have a Geppeto, but I have a Ser Jacopo that is an excellent pipe both in appearance and smoking traits. Mine is a middle weight, and I tend to smoke those, or light weight pipes, a little more. The pipe in the photo is a beauty, if it calls to you. I think the quality would be high.

Trying to discern how well a pipe cleaner may go through it, it has that slight bulge before the bowl...hmmmm

Well, I passed....aesthetic reasons...
Went with a bent pot of which I have none...
All done....now it's just the waiting.
Thanks for the help folks...

BlueMaxx, I take it as a given that not all bent pipes take pipe cleaners to the bowl. I am pleased with the bent pipes that do, but with some, it's just too much of a turn, no matter how cleverly you crimp the end of the pipe cleaner and manipulate it. I just wait until those bent pipes need a complete cleaning and do the stem and shank separately. It's not a problem. Wire doesn't do U-turns, it seems to me.

Thank you for that information, that makes sense.
Also thanks for the advice on future cleaning.
The other pipe I got I had my eye on also, it was between those two.

Now I will take my time, try to dedicate a specific blend style to each and start a rotation.
Pretty exciting time for me.

No more cigarettes, and I can learn to get my rhythm while being able to have a flavorful smoke while working on the clocks.

Already with the meager amount of stashed tins I have the little shop room smells heavenly.

Thanks again!

M

Oh, by the way...I went with a Neerup classic sandblasted bent pot...I think it will be just right size wise for me.

Damn that 15% off sale that ends today...

I relented...I went ahead and purchased the pipe just now...and a tin of Dan tobacco sweet vanilla honeydew.
Not so sure about arrows just yet, but it sounded like a nice blend to go with a morning cuppa.

I think it will be the nicest and last addition to my new pipe collection, although I am pretty excited about the Neer's also. I have some traveling coming up and will appreciate their size.

......now comes the breaking in part.

I have heard that some folks actually rub a bit of honey and then coat that with some pipe ash....

So far my first smokes in new briar haven't been too bad...the 602 seemed to taste "off" for several bowls but does not anymore.

Anyone here done such a thing or is it just an ol' wives tale....
