I picked this MasterCraft meerschaum lined up in a lot of estate pipes. The stem had a crack half its length which seemed to be fixable. However when cleaning the stem in prep for the fix it just fell apart. It looks like the stem was poorly made as one wall was extremely thin and the opposite wall quite thick. This stem was never going to survive. The briar is quite nice and looks good cleaned up. I'd like to salvage it. Is there a way to replace this stem which had a metal tenon?

I would contact Mike Myers at Walker Briar Repair. He has repaired and replaced a few stems for me, and is very reasonable.

Yup, Walker Briar Repair (or Norwood or others) can fix you up. Unless you want to undertake learning stem restoration/replacement. This is a quick and inexpensive job for an experienced pipe repair person. I have a freehand estate pipe, a gift, that had a stem that oxidized immediately after polishing it, with one smoke. Now it has a new acrylic stem in tortoise shell, tastefully matched to the briar. It's a whole new pipe.
