I put together a schedule that will help me decided on what pipe i buy and when. First the rules to myself.
1) I must Follow This Schedule unless money is an issue.

2) If i buy a pipe I must love it not just buy for the sake of buying.

3) If I don't find a pipe for that month then i don't get one thats it.
OK so I am starting this most likely in January it will be a fresh start to my hobby.
Here is what i will look for and buy in each Month of the year. Some tie to a holiday or event others are just random you will most likely notice it while reading the schedule.

January - Freehand / Artisan / Commission ( New Year Fresh Gear  )
February - Zulu / Rhodesian
March - Dublin / Liverpool ( St. Patrick's Day hence Dublin)
April - Poker / Egg / Pot / Billiard / Cherrywood
May - Lovat / Calabash
June - Diplomat / Bulldog
July - Lumberman / Canadian ( Canada Day )
August - Anything my Birthyear / Pipers Choice (Its My Birthday Month)
September - Author / Oom Paul / Vest Pocket / Paneled / Acorn (Back to School)
October - Prince / Horn / Tankard
November - Cavalier / Cutty / Hawkbill / Tomahawk
December - Chimney / Church warden / Apple / Brandy

This is my list Should be fun to do. This will make me think more about what I am buying and ill be more focused while looking. If you have any suggestions for me or feel like you would like to try this feel free to list your schedule here too.
Reasons why i am doing this is because i have a tendency to speed up my hobbies and i get very carried away at times so i need to regulate myself or i would eventually crash and throw the hobby all together for many reasons. So slow and steady as they say.
Also, some of you may think that a pipe a month isn't slowing down, and you would be right but please refer to my rules above. what would be my chances in finding a Prince / Horn / Tankard in October that i really really love and absolutely must have, not impossible yes but not likely. I doubt ill find something every month thats the purpose and thats how this system works.

Your system is downright idiotic and silly for one fundamental reason, what happens if you find the most mind-blowing, best possible pipe for yourself, at the best possible mind-blowing price and it is the wrong month??? You will either throw your list away or live in regret for the rest of your life :) It would be better to not buy more than a pipe a month, every three months, whatever your limit is and not bother specifying exactly what type it has to be. 2 cents deposited, glad your enjoying your new hobby, now don't leave us or the mighty 6 will hunt you down :)
PS: I love your sig, may the pipe smoking world never forget what happens when "the hot bit goes in the back."

Eric I thought about that already and my answer is i shouldn't be looking for any other shape that isn't listed in the month if it is not meant to be then it is not meant to be, I love pipe smoking but i know myself i cannot allow myself to be engulfed into everything pipe all the time have you heard the expression Twice as Bright, Half as Long
If i continue to operate like this its only a matter of time. I know this from past hobbies and experiences. Of course this only ties to me i don't expect the lot of you to understand it nor do i expect this system to work for everyone, but i need to work on my will power.
Over Time this system will ensure a life long enjoyment of pipe smoking and eventually a grand collection of pipes all of which i will be extremely happy to own with no regrets. I also find it cool that i would have themed pipe rotations for each month of the year that i am excited about.
Hell im only 27 so i have plenty of time to build my awesome collection im just trying not to rush it.

Also I want to add that finding a pipe i like isn't an issue in fact its the problem! every time i look for one i find 20 that i love. This is why i am not worried if i see that crazy looking pipe i must have but its not the right month. there will always be another the same or better. Always.

You do know that I'm going to intentionally find fantastic pipes and unbelievable prices that are always one month behind your schedule and send them to you now. Right?

smokey - I applaud your efforts to control your PAD, but I kinda agree with Eric on this one...well, calling you an idiot goes a bit too far if you ask me (a moron maybe, but definitely not an idiot) - lol.
We call it PAD because it's a disorder—we can't control ourselves!
Just my .2 cents, but I would suggest you decide on how many pipes you really need and once that number is achieved, stop for a while and focus on TAD (tobacco ain't gettin' cheaper). Ideally each pipe should rest for a couple of days. I have 24+ and it's enough for me. I wouldn't mind more of course, but I really don't need more.
You do know that I'm going to intentionally find fantastic pipes and unbelievable prices that are always one month behind your schedule and send them to you now. Right?
lol!

I don't NEED any more lol but it is a disorder like you said. And this is a treatment for said disorder. Also TAD is game 365 days of the year no reason to limit myself on baccy more then i already am limited to.
As far as it being moronic and idiotic like i said maybe for you but for me i think its a great idea. maybe your just too far into the PAD to except it lol. I'm still Stage 1 i can be treated.

I believe I'm with Pat on this one. Smokey I get what you're trying to achieve, and I applaud your attempt at discipline, but one of the other main tenets of PAD is peer pressuring others to buy..."sabotage" if you will. I look forward to working with you in 2014.

I'm with Pat on this one, lol! I've already had the perfect pipe slip past and still regret it to this day because I didn't put a high enough max bid and got sniped. Never found another pipe that spoke to me like that because I like medium to medium-small sized pipes that are heavily bent, like Oom Paul bent. It pains me to think about it!

I like the concept Smokey. Look for those pipes in the month you decided on and if that must have Brandy shows up in June instead of December just acquire it and consider it icing on the cake. Nothing wrong with perusing specific shapes any given month. In my life schedules are plan but must be a bit flexible to accommodate for the unforeseen. That is a fresh idea and I applaud it.

I'm in Chris' camp here, brother. I'm just razzing you about facilitating out of month PAD. I'd never do that. Ok, not more than twice.

I may not agree with your methods but I wish you luck. I know I couldn't do it that way...I don't have enough self control.

I think if this is what you need to do to stay with this long term then go for it. Everyone is different and we all need to control our pads and tads in different ways so if you feel comfortable with this system then I say go for it.

I have the exact same personality as you. All through my life, I have gone into a hobby at 150 miles an hour and then burn out, only after getting every piece of absolutely needed equipment one could possibly use for that said hobby, and then drop it like a hot potato!
Far from being 'idiotic' as a forum member suggested, (I'm sure he was smiling when he wrote that) I admire your discipline and wonder where you got it from.
I certainly could use some of it.
Good for you!

Smokey and Allan. I'm the same way as well.
My plan is to have a list in my head of what pipes or shapes I want first and try to stick with it. Easier said then done though.
